JUNE 2010 LSAT Countdown Thread: Good Luck Today Everyone!
So I decided last minute to retake the LSAT in June. This is going to be my 4th time taking the exam and I already have a 170 in the bank from Feb 2010 so I'm not really gonna be studying that much. I will just go over the LG and LR Bibles one last time and just take the last 10 practice tests at some point before test day. Anyways, enough about my retake. I will update this thread every day. Good luck studying everyone

I just took my first practice test Sunday, scored pretty well. Hoping to improve a few points by the time that Monday rolls around.

I'm hoping the following study plan will be sufficient.
I already took four practice LSATs but... I'm done with finals this Friday and I'm going to Myrtle Beach with some friends next week.
From May 14 to June 6.. I'll take a practice test every other day.
I have poor grades, so while I've already been testing around 170-175- I want to do all I can to maximize my chances of getting a 180.
Basically, whatever it takes for me to have a shot at UVA Law.

Well, I've been doing an LSAT every day for the past week just to get used to the idea...and I'm also doing a prep course with homework. All I want is admission to Minnesota, so I'll be content with scoring somewhere between 165 and 170.

Man, I wish the test was tomorrow so I could take it and just be done with it for better or worse. Patience is not my strong suit.
I've taken 14 practice tests so far, and plan on doing another 10-12 before the real thing.

I feel ready to go now. I'm basically honed in on my strategy. The LG is all that needs a bit more speed.
Anyway, I mapped out my schedule: I have 13 Preptests to go, which will put me at about 30-35 total (about 5 were almost a year ago).
I can't wait to walk in on June 7th, rock it, and walk out knowing I did my best.
Good luck to all.

My review strategy is that after I take each exam- I'm going to take notes on the questions I got wrong and write down why the answer I picked was wrong and the one I didn't pick was right. I'm going to rely on my notes as study material.makingwaves wrote:Ditto. What's your review strategy looking like?Dr. Strangelove wrote:I'm hoping the following study plan will be sufficient.

I also bought a Princeton Review book (gives some helpful tips but I'm wary of the fact that their tests aren't actual LSAT tests) and a LR bible.

Saw the thread and thought I would stop by and wish everyone good luck!
I remember my time in May last year, and how nerve racking it was...
One piece of advice for everyone (like me) that hates LR, follow Strangelove and purchase the LR Bible... I did and picked up 6 points on my second go 'round (the only addition to my study regimen). I highly recommend it.

My first time (and hopefully last time) coming up!
I've got about 5-6 full PT's down, and about 15-20 individual LR and 15ish LG & CR reading down.
I'm hoping to crack >169. That should get me into UCLA and or USC. Got my letters of rec done today. My GPA is now locked in. All I have left is this test.
I have about 15 PT's to go, all the most recent. I'm testing at about 165-171, with the latter being my highest. I'd like to break 173 and test consistently at 170 walking into the testing room!
I'm actually pretty excited about taking it... am I alone here?

Checking in. This will be my first and (like the person above me) hopefully last time. The nervous excitement is definitely starting to set in. I can only imagine how the days leading up to our scores being released will be; my heart pounds just when I check my answers to PTs...
Good luck to all in the last month of studying!

No. Having a deadline that is not far away makes me focus.makingwaves wrote:Ditto. What's your review strategy looking like?Dr. Strangelove wrote:I'm hoping the following study plan will be sufficient.

Working 6 days a week and resting on the Sabbath!
Just DOING the full tests cut my LR errors in half, and RC (which wasn't as much wrong as LR) is going down too. Yesterday was ridiculous because I was dog tired, my eyes kept trying to close on me while I was trying to focus. That was terrible, lesson do not under any circumstances let anything mess with my sleep the night before the real deal. Coffee won't help me when I am that tired.
But yeah, one a day with a rest day to review areas where I am NOT making an improvement. If I am already making improvement in judgment/choices just by repetition, obviously I am getting my errors and don't want to use up limited time rehashing what my brain already made corrections for.
I sometimes make myself do the writing prompt timed too, just to build up endurance. I am excellent speaking or writing cold and under pressure so I am not at all worried about the writing section...might use my LSAT Superprep tests to splice in that 5th section in the last half of this month.
I feel like I'm starting the third lap of the mile...too far to turn back, not quite in the last lap. Committed.

How many full length tests everyone planning on taking total? (As in at least 4 sections, or maybe 5 or all 6 including writing).

Re: JUNE 2010 LSAT Countdown Thread: 32 Days
Taking it for the second time after the 161 from September of last year just didn't cut it. I am using a modified 2 month version of the PithyPike method. My first two timed PTs were 170 and 173 respectively. The last time I studied I just did a few practice tests and only hit 170 once out of 10 times.
I just feel not only am I benefiting from the new approaches I now use from the Bibles, but also I feel I just have a natural aptitude for the entire test I just didn't have before.
Nonetheless...going to need all 32 of those days.

Re: JUNE 2010 LSAT Countdown Thread: 32 Days
Ya know, I read this thread with great enthusiasm this morning, confident in my abilities and eager to take the real thing. Now it is the end of the day, and dread has set in. My LG skills are good, but occasionally (today) I do a LR or RC section that I just completely tard out on, really undermining my confidence. I want this to be over with.
How much improvement has everyone shown since they started studying? Two months ago I had never looked at an LSAT, and I probably started studying in earnest about 7 weeks ago. My intial prep test was a 160, and my last three were 174, 169, 175. I'm afraid that I may have hit my peak, but even if I can manage to do that well on the real thing I'll be happy. I'm deathly afraid of some profound test-day cognitive malfunction.

Re: JUNE 2010 LSAT Countdown Thread: 32 Days
I know my brain can learn to reason and read how the LSAT wants...so just repetition should sharpen me up with those. But the LG bible was a GODSEND on logic games!PlugInBaby wrote:Taking it for the second time after the 161 from September of last year just didn't cut it. That strategy on "if you're running out of time shade in the same answer the rest of the section" has given me 2-3 points I would not otherwise have had! At this point if my time doesn't go up significantly on those games my strategy will continue to be "make time for 3 and Ds the rest of the way"...I'm not going to kill myself if I can't finish all of them in 35 minutes. My accuracy was decent when doing untimed LG drills...timed...SOL. Thus far. maybe I am giving up on all 4 too early since I have about 28 more tests to get through...we will see if maybe I shouldn't set them all up first before getting bogged down in one. Or some other change in strategy. Won't try that til I see how a few more go.
I still don't do 100% complete setups like they do cause it takes too much time to figure out every not law and reverse on the spot...they do come to me with common sense and logic as I go along in the game though. Usually.
I am really feeling behind at all these folks whose diagnostics were in the 160s...smart people...I wish my preptests were in the 170s. I would be jumping up and down for joy and trying to maintain.

Re: JUNE 2010 LSAT Countdown Thread: 32 Days
I would not give up hope for the ability to complete all four games on test day, you still have a month left which is a good deal of time to really condition yourself for logic games. Many of the games are variations on past games, and I find that just by sheer repetition, i.e. doing the same games 3 or 4 times (with at least a few days/weeks in between) that even ones I haven't done before become more intuitive. For me, I actually go faster when I take the extra time to fully diagram the rules, as I spend a lot less time on individual questions, especially with in/out games and pure sequencing. Your experience may vary, though.
On another note, I find myself being increasingly generous and helpful in the hopes that the universe will repay my good deeds with lsat prowess.
