Should I retake?

Post by ENGINEERD » Tue May 04, 2010 3:18 pm

167/3.2

Test day was the highest I had ever scored. My PT average was a couple points lower. I was ecstatic to see my score but after my cycle I realized if I were able to hit the 170 mark I would have had a good chance at my dream schools and maybe low T14's.

I took the LSAT 3 times cancel/mid150s/167. I will be able to take the LSAT again in october. My biggest weakness was LG- I could only finish 3 games. With enough effort I think I might be able to fix this problem and hit that 170 range.

The problem is that I really do not want to take another year off. I will have to find another job for a year, turn down offers from the T25 w/ $$, and devote the entire summer to LSAT on top of my 3 summer school courses. The T25's are out of state and I want to work in CA. In addition I am very excited about attending law school and I don't want to lose my momentum.

Is it worth it to retake and reapply in the fall?

I think you should attend one of the above. A 3.2 is relatively low and the fact that you got lucky with the LSAT and had some decent scholarship money thrown at you to boot makes me want to say you should attend. Considering your busy summer school schedule I wonder how much you'd actually be able to progress with the LSAT from your previous tests.

With that said, you said you're desired market is CA. I'm not sure how easily WUSTL would get you there, I don't know how ND's alumni network in CA looks considering I didn't really look at ND, and UCI hasn't really established itself quite yet. If you're absolutely set on CA then perhaps your decision might require more thought. If you're flexible though, I'd pick either WUSTL and ND. I'd probably give ND more of a leg up though if they gave you more money than WUSTL.

These are just the humble thoughts of an 0L though and some more experienced posters should chime in.

Thank you very much for responding. I share the same concerns about my busy summer, perhaps I could retake in december instead. On the other hand I agree that I had really decent scholarship money thrown at me considering how low my GPA is. Picking between the three is whole other story, I am really just wondering whether or not I should retake.
