October instead of June???!!!

Post by swflgirl » Sun May 02, 2010 5:39 pm

I started prepping in Feb, started a powerscore class in March and have devoted as much time as I possibly can to studying for this damn test. I don't think I am ready. I don't think I am going to be ready in 35 days. I am still struggling with grouping games and still getting my ass handed to me on too many of the LR questions. Im pretty good and consistent and quick on the RC. So I have been trying to figure out, is it worthwhile to go ahead and take the June test so I can re-take in October or just wait until October? Does taking the June test and doing badly hurt me more than just waiting until October and giving it everything I have got? Will it still be early enough in the application cycle if I wait to take the October test? I wanted best case scenario, take the June test, do really well get apps in at beginning of cycle. Now I need a new scenario.
The schools I am applying to have a median score I can achieve, I just don't know that I can achieve it in June. Especially if what they say here is true, that you drop 5 points from where you are preptesting. I need to gain 5+, I can't afford to lose anything. I feel like the pressure I am now putting on myself is causing me to have a huge block, the words are just swimming across the page - I am not able to even concentrate to make improvements.
Is anyone else struggling with this decision? Anyone have any advice?

It's going to vary by person, but personally I think you should move forward with the plan of taking it in June. With another month of serious study I think it is quite likely that things will start to click and you will begin hitting your target score on practice tests. But if not you can always take the June test anyway for the experience. If you take it and you know you underperformed, cancel and retake in October.

I took in October, did worse than my PT average and had to retake in December. And by then it is way too late to be applying and I screwed up my cycle. So I say you should still aim for June. Even if you don't do well, going through the experience of taking the real thing will help you a lot for your retake.

i did a prep class and got a 161 in june (i wanted a 164). then i took every old lsat available between june and october (a few hours every night in the library) and got a 164

i'll be at the school i wanted in the fall with a half scholarship. if you don't think you're ready, postpone. just be sure to get your applications in before november, otherwise the scholarship money dries up

to the contrary, 161 to 164 is a pretty substantial jump. 161 probably would not have gotten me into the school of my choice, much less the decent scholarship. it's something like a 5 point percentile increase. with applications, every point counts

my practice tests ranged from 163-169 but the real lsat is where it counts

study hard, do well, and apply early!

YES!!! Flw, I'm going through the same problem. I was studying gong-ho from January - early March, then all of a sudden I went through some personal things and I fell off with the studying. Now that it's MAY and the test is JUNE! I don't know if I should take the test or not with one month of studying.

I, thought the samething of just taking the test for the "experience" and see what happens.

But my advice, take the test and see what your scores are. If you know you can score better at least you can retake in October and still have time to submit your applications.

I'm having the same problem!
the difference is that i'm going to take the test out of the US, which means there're only 53 days left and i'm having this major problem with LR!
the June test is sort of my only chance, cuz i'll have another BIG test mid- September, taking Oct LSAT seems unrealistic.
Freak out!

Delaying June to September last year was my second best choice of my cycle. I had enough time to properly study and knocked it out of the park in Sept.
