Prep 51. Section 3. Question 19

Post by eternallearner » Sun Apr 25, 2010 6:20 pm

Wouldn't the correct choice (D) be an illogical equivalent of the first sentence of the question stem? I assumed that the answer choice should contain something to the effect: If archaic spellings .... are not to be preserved, then they occur frequently or interfere with a reader's comprehension.

How were you able to conclude that (D) was the right choice?

Thank you!

I did 51 recently, and also got 19 wrong.

If you break the stem down you get:

Archaic quote
  • If infrequent and does not interfere ->preserve

    If frequent -> modernize and note
Modern
  • If Typo -> correct
D: Archaic quote, frequently and interferes -> modernize

This is true from from "If frequent -> modernize and note"

the first sentence "If infrequent and does not interfere ->preserve" is not applicable, because the problem occurs frequently.
