When to take the LSAT?

Post by dan32 » Fri Apr 16, 2010 11:27 pm

I am currently a 2nd semester sophomore in UG. I haven't been able to find an internship this summer so I am considering taking a couple of classes and working part-time. I was thinking that I would have a good amount of time to study for the LSAT but I don't know how useful that would be. I am studying abroad in the fall so the earliest LSAT I could take would be February 2011. I would have all of January after I return to study. Would it be a good idea to study this summer, take a break for a semester, go at it hard again for a month, and then take the test? Also, would a logic class this summer be helpful? Would February of my junior year be real early to take the test?

Thanks for your help.

i think taking it in june after your junior year might be better just because you will have longer to study. taking a semester-gap in studying probably isn't the best idea. if you take it in june you will still be able to apply early & re-take in october if necessary. also, the february test is undisclosed so if you do need to re-take that won't be the most helpful.

Quite a few people I have spoken with on TLS have suggested taking the the December of their junior year, that way if they don't like it, they can always re-take it in the following June, and apply early during the fall of their senior year. That sounds pretty solid to me. :)

As for studying... I would recommend taking a pretest just to see how you do that way you know what you need to score and what you need to study. There is no sense in spending time studying something you already have under wraps. :)

I would do the December but I will still be abroad during that time, and I really don't see myself doing any studying while I am gone. As far as February being undisclosed, does that just mean that I won't be able to review my test and answers to see what parts I got wrong?

yeah. i know that waiting until june & risking an october re-take if things go awry isn't ideal, but i would be wary of studying for a month after you returned unless you were really confident with where you were before you left.
