Tminus 55 days: Study Schedule or Am I cutting it too close?

Post by micbain » Tue Apr 13, 2010 11:10 am

Hi! First, this is a great a forum! I've found a lot of really helpful guides here. The reason for this thread is to get some suggestions for the June 7th LSAT.

At T minus 55 days, I'm not starting cold. I've been studying (applied loosely) for the last month by enrolling in a Kaplan course as well as tackling major lsat question types (using the kaplan terminology). Thus far I've gone through (not timed):

1. All logic games (Sequence, Matching, Grouping, Hybrid)
2. Major logical reasoning areas (assumption, formal logic, flaw, inference, parallel reasoning)
3. Reading Comp

Based on the last 4 weeks or so, I've spent almost every weekday doing untimed questions, with focus on understanding the question type and why I answered it right/wrong. A couple of hours on each of these days (however, reading this forum, I don't think it was as intense a couple of hours as the rest of everyone here. It was very leisurely.)

So 55 days left, what should I be looking to do? I haven't done any timed questions (which is a huge weakness as I only finished 2/3 of the diagnostic under timed conditions) so the obvious is to move to timed practice and then full LSAT's.

Any suggestions as to schedule from here on? Is 55 days enough? (Diagnostic = 155, Goal = 170).

Thanks!

I would wait until October. If you don't get the score you want in June there is no way to take it back. IMO it would be better to have a solid October score than a mediocre June score.

3 or 4 strictly-timed practice tests per week, spend twice as much time reviewing them .. understanding WHY each answer is the wrong answer choice, determining your strengths/weaknesses.

repetition is key. if you aren't consistently scoring 173/174+, you probably shouldn't take the June test [seeing as how you're aiming for a 170, factor in test-day jitters, stress, poor test-taking environment/proctor/etc.]

3-4 per week for the remaining schedule? Should I jump straight into full length PT's? Or should I start with timed sections? I have a Kaplan "Pacing" book which essentially has timed sections in LSAT form (same time constraints, same number of questions, etc) but aren't the full 5 sections of an exam.

Say that I'm several weeks from the LSAT and I'm hitting nowhere close to where I need to be and I defer the exam: Am I just wasting these timed practice questions and PT's that I'm doing right now?
