ok so a stimulus states that
in country a, within a certain time period, total coal usage increased less than 10 percent.
however, a certain type of coal usage, lets say coal type A, went up by more than 50 percent.
thus the answer is that, proportion of coal type A increased, amongst TOTAL coal.
ok so thats a relatively simple concept but im just wondering.
what if TOTAL coal type usage was something 50 billion, in absolute pounds.
and coal type A usage was something like .1
ok so taking this into consideration, lets say the 50 billion total was increased less than 10 percent.
and the coal type A usage was raised by 50%, or .15
then does this, even in these ridiculous terms, constitute that the coal type A constitutes more of coal usage than it did before?
or am i not understanding this correctly? i tried many numbers that are big, and everytime i tried it was indeed true that coal type A did constitute more..but DAMN if it is then isnt this a math question in many ways?

If a part increases more than the rest, it's going to gain a greater portion of the whole.sangr wrote:ok so a stimulus states that

Also, yes, the LSAT is full of statistically-based inferences.

I see, thanks. That clears everything up perfectly, worded in those terms.
