What instrumental song do you listen to while studying?
I only listen to music to drown out the chattering at a busy Starbucks or B&N's. On my ipod I have "Your Hands Are Cold" by Dario Marianelli on repeat. I find it soothing and other than complete quietness, helps me concentrate on my studies. In case you guys don't recognize the obscurity of the song, it's from the Pride & Prejudice soundtrack.

Anything by Explosions in the Sky or This Will Destroy You are pretty great instrumental offerings.

I thought you were being facetious Aber"zombie" but then I looked it up on youtube...yeah, kinda has a soothing instrumental beat to it, though eerie vibe to it ('cause I seen the movie).

theavrock,
"This Will Destroy You" sounds like a theme song from the movie "Sunshine" by John Murphy called, "On the Surface of the Sun." That's a great song too!

Does the obnoxious, repetitive loop that plays in Fifa 2010 (which my boyfriend hunkers down with every evening while I study) count?

IIRC, that's Blur's "Song 2," at least the first 30 seconds or so of it.shoop wrote:Does the obnoxious, repetitive loop that plays in Fifa 2010 (which my boyfriend hunkers down with every evening while I study) count?
"Giant Steps" by Coltrane or anything from Chris Thile's "Deceiver" album were very helpful for both writing thesis and studying for the LSAT.

I don't know about study music as I was constantly studying around the tv and whining sleepy kids...
But I did sit in the car for 15 minutes listening to music before walking into the testing center. I used to go through the same routine before every race and I think it helped to calm my nerves and get me into game shape. It probably would help you clear your mind and help with focus. I have a whole playlist of techno/rap music that ends with Sandstorm. I think it helped a lot.

I'm also a fan of the Cinderella Man soundtrack and when I feel bored, I listen to the Bourne series soundtracks.

I agree with Explosions in the Sky. They are amazing for this purpose. Especially thh album 'the earth is not a cold, dead place'. 65daysofstatic is pretty good too.

I've always favored Sigur Ros while writing and studying. The lack of intelligible lyrics makes for a non-distracting but still motivating background.

Definitely my favorite EITS song, though 'Remember Me as a Time of Day' and 'With Tired Eyes, Tired Minds, and Tired Souls, We Slept" are up there. I don't know if you were talking about FNL the TV series or the movie (I love them both, the movie is my favorite of all time), but the FNL movie soundtrack is actually one of EITS' best albums IMO.kevin261186 wrote:I run to your hand in mine. "Fu**in' in the Bushes" by Oasis. Been addicted to that song ever since I saw the movie Snatch.

I couldn't possibly think of anything more distracting than music. I'd rather have two people have noisy sex to my right and a drunken midget belching and banging two frying pans together to my left than having to listen to music while studying.

I'm a bit of a classical buff, so I have a huge collection.
Currently on the rotation:
Bach's Well Tempered Clavier
Shostakovich's Piano Concertos
Chopin's Etudes

Another one for Explosions in the Sky. Absolutely incredible music. I usually listen to "The Earth is not a Cold, Dead Place" and "All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone" before taking an exam, participating in a sporting event, giving a presentation, etc. It calms my nerves and puts me in a great state of mind.
Favorite Songs:
Your Hand in Mine
Six Days at the Bottom of the Ocean
Coma
So Long, Lonesome
Welcome, Ghosts
Have You Passed Through This Night?
With Tired Eyes, Tired Minds, Tired Souls, We Slept
Just an AMAZING band.
Godspeed! You Black Emperor and Sigur Ros are top notch as well.
