In this case the difference is a poor attempt at a light pilsner (I thought all pilsners were light to begin with) and a fairly good, albeit cheap, lager. No contest. Yuengling is a great session beer.Smallville wrote:lol wut??? thats two totally different types of beer lol ur silly jackJackelJ wrote:I'm not the only one here after all.zacboro wrote:Yes JJ

They're different, but not that different. A Pale Lager vs. a Light lager, both 100% bad/underwhelming. It's not like comparing a Dubbel Bock with a Gueuze.Smallville wrote:lol wut??? thats two totally different types of beer lol ur silly jackJackelJ wrote:I'm not the only one here after all.zacboro wrote:Yes JJ

I'm aware that they are different. Its more the principle that if you're getting cheap beer and you are from Pennsylvania or Florida thats what you get. There is a plethora of very, very good stouts and porters (they're the same damn thing). Black Butte Porter, The Abyss, BCBS, KBS, Huna, Dark Lord, Darkness, Black Note Stout, etc. I could go on for awhile. Big, barrel aged stouts are right there with unbalanced hop forward IPAs in terms of craft trendiness right now.TheProdigal wrote:The hop obsessed American craft beer movement has reached a point of self-parody. By trendy I meant that micro/nano breweries are producing a lot of IPAs currently. The American craft scene is dominated by IPAs and DIPAs. I love them as well, and I wasn't trying to imply that folks drink them because they are trendy.Dirigo wrote:I didn't realize IPA's were particularly trendy. (This isn't directed at you Rigo) I disagree that the "obsession" with IPA here in America is anything negative. One could easily say the same about Germany and lagers. Certain countries to certain styles better than others. America does big IPAs and big stouts better than any other country, just like Belgium does sours and quads better than anybody else. Speaking of German beers, if anyone wants to know the best type of beer for summer session drinking, it's Goses. Slightly salty, slightly tart, crisp, and refreshing. Westbrook Gose is a

One of the best stouts in the world is brewed in Florida, and I even named it in that list. A quick look at who distributes in Florida shows that you guys get a lot of good stuff. Bells, Crooked Stave, Goose Island (for BCBS and variants), Hoppin Frog (has an excellent stout BORIS), Lagunitas, Stone, The Bruery, Prairie Artisan Ales (Prairie Bomb! is my favorite stout), and many others. You have to find the right beer store, and talk to the folks that work there. They should be able to point out some great options.TheProdigal wrote:Might be the climate to blame, but its not really that way in Florida. The Abyss wrote:Big, barrel aged stouts are right there with unbalanced hop forward IPAs in terms of craft trendiness right now.

Why should Rigo just get to stomp around like a giant while the rest of us try not to get smushed under his big feet? Prodigal is just as cute as Rigo, right? Prodigal is just as smart as Rigo, people totally like Prodigal just as much as they like Rigo, and when did it become okay for one person to be the boss of everybody because that's not what TLS is about! We should totally just STAB RIGO!Dirigo wrote:Stop trying to make Florida happen. It's not going to happen.

Febbers, I know we're shitposting in anticipation of Waiters but I just retook PT 72's LG after dying on it last week and -0ed it! Finished in 30, and managed to find the two mistakes I made in the five minutes remaining. It doesn't mean much, since it's only been a week, but I'm definitely calmer about Saturday now.
You may now return to talking about booze and how much Florida sux.

Huna doesn't count, due to availability. The thing is, I've seen 75% of those brands, and almost never their stouts, down here. Maybe its more a Miami thing, but central and north Florida don't see them. For the purpose of stating it, I work at a grocery store widely lauded for its beer selection.
Tangentially, a guy a work with who consults for brewers around here pulled a 176 some years back.
