I usually spread it out into blocks ranging from 90minutes to 3 hours, it just depends on the day and how I am feeling.Barack O'Drama wrote:SunDevil14 wrote:My thoughts exactly, I find the reading the question first enables me better focus on the stimulus, and more accurately construct a paraphrased answer. I am also able to move through the section faster. I believe those two factors combined mitigate the issue of creating a bias while reading the question.Barack O'Drama wrote:proteinshake wrote:do whatever works best for you.SunDevil14 wrote:I am currently working through my prep books. I would highly suggest the Powerscore Logic Games Bible. Originally I was not able to get through all 4 games in time, nor with tremendous accuracy. I completed the book about a week and a half ago, and am now consistently getting through all 4 games while only missing a few question if any.
My main question is about logical reasoning. Is there a large consensus on whether the stimulus should be read before the questions or vice versa? Rather, is choosing which to read first a matter of preference?
I have been recording my progress using both methods, and I consistently score higher when reading the question first. Although, my prep material suggestions reading the stimulus first. I'm curious of whether reading the question first will be detrimental in the long, despite currently yielding better results.
I agree with Proteinshake that you should do whatever works best for you. The only downside I have heard is that once you read the question before the stimulus, you can never get a truly fresh perspective on the game. You might see it biased and miss something. However, I read it first because I think the risk of that happening is worth knowing what to look for so you can pre-phrase your answer.
To answer your other question, I try to get in at least 4 hours a day, 6 days a week. I usually go do 3 hours of drill/new material and prep, and 1+ hours of review.
Yeah, so true about your first point. And that sounds like an ideal balance. What time of day do you study at? Do you do it all in one shot or spread it out?

Lol, I got on such a roll with the personal statement that now I'm writing "Why X's". Hopefully after I take the test in September, every part of the application will be finished.

Nice! When exactly did you come up with a topic for your PS? And how long did it take you to write it? I'm still having issues deciding what topic I want to write about.SweetTort wrote:Lol, I got on such a roll with the personal statement that now I'm writing "Why X's". I love Suits! It is great! Its gotten really emotional recently- Im interested in seeing how this new season starts and continues. I still haven't watched the new HoC season, but I purposely kept away so I don't get into another Netflix binge lolTheMikey wrote:I've been meaning to take a look at New Girl, how is it? Tbh, my PS is probably a little bland, since I wrote it about the extracurricular that I've basically spent all of college doing. It only took me a few hours to crank out, but I'll continue editing it and making it school-specific in the coming weeks.
Now, my Yale 250 on the other hand... it's dope. Like, I'd be proud to submit it.

I love Suits, it is probably one of my favorite shows! I literally re-watched every episode around the holidays. Can't wait for this next season.

Tbh, I'll probably just retake the 70's as we get closer to the test. This will give me a confidence boost, and familiarize me with the more recent question styles.

From my understanding, it's 250 words on basically anything. I chose to write fiction, which is probably a little too outside the box, but fuck it.

I believe I am roughly in the same place as far as preparation and score.YupSports wrote:I have seen improvement from a 160, so that is comforting.proteinshake wrote:it's normal to not do as good on your beginning PTs as you do on your drills. as you get used to taking full length PTs, you'll do just as good as you do during drills! but you should probably have seen at least some improvement over those 5 PTs!YupSports wrote:5 total - 2 in the past 2 weeks.proteinshake wrote:how many PTs have you done?YupSports wrote:Another Saturday, another LSAT!
PT 62:
LR 1: -4
LG: - 3 (Ran out of time right before the last question)
LR 2: - 6 (Ran out of time before the last 2)
RC - 6: (5 minutes called before last passage)
Score 164.
I am a bit perplexed as to why I run out of time; during timed drilling I am always quick (2-3 minutes early, every section), but can't seen to put it together on test day. During drilling I usually mix a max of 3 during a section - super weird...
Alas, I will review and learn from my mistakes!
PT 35:
LR 1: -2 (5 Minutes called with 4 questions left)
RC: -5 (5 Minutes called as I began the last passage)
LG: -5 (5 Minutes called as I began last game)
LG 2: -5 (5 minutes called with 6 questions left)
Score: 166
I have been studying 3 weeks, taken 4 timed practice tests, and up 4 points from my original 162. I took the latest practice test after completing both the LG bible and LR bible.
Are you struggling with time accuracy or both? Of the questions I complete before 5 minutes are called I usually only miss 2 at the most. Furthermore, when I take the test/sections without a 35 minute time limit I usually complete all sections in no more than 40 minutes while only missing a few in each section.
At this point, I focus much more on accuracy. As the test draws closer, I will place a greater emphasis on speed if I have not made solid improvements in my time.
Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but shouldn't speed improve as accuracy and familiarity improve?

It also means I need AT LEAST a 172 on this test, so I should probably start focusing instead of googling schools. haha
