For my last day of serious prep I'm think of doing 3RCs and a LR and LG. Thoughts? Too rigorous this close to Test Day?

Re: The 160s Club! Join all ye 170 hopefuls!
I had my highest score on 57 (166); it's really not that scary. I actually did decently (for me) on RC... what actually ended up hurting me was the 2nd LR section.
Meanwhile, after drilling and drilling and drilling, today I finally got a -1 on a timed LR section! Have to do two more sections of that tonight, but I'm hoping to end on a high note. If it clicks on "game day", I think I could have a chance at 170 (or at the very least 168-169, which was my original goal).

I haven't taken PT56 yet, but I took PT57 yesterday, and didn't find the fractal passage to be too difficult. I thought the Willa Cather passage was much trickier.Bustang wrote:57 isn't difficult aside from one weird game, some odd LR language in both sections, and that fucking fractal geometry RC (I still can't understand that shit). 56 and 57 are very similar in most respects now that I've taken both.

you scored 9 points lower on PT56 than on PT57!? board consensus is that 56 is easier than 57... hmmm. I'm planning on taking 56 tomorrow and making it my last.lsb wrote:Interesting. Other than the Dino game, you didn't find the others a little bit unusual.

I think people are over exaggerating here. The difference between PT 56 and PT 57 isn't substantial like some of the other ones. If you want to see a substantial difference: Take PT 48 & 49. I think PT 57 gained a lot of hype due to the dino games. I found that when I had some kind of knowledge about a difficult RC section or game on a PT I was about to take, I'd always do 1-2 points worse on it than average. PT 57 did have some weirdly-worded LR and one pretty hard RC, but overall I think TLS is upping the ante.

Last PT: PT54.
RC -2, LR -2, LG -2, LR -2. 93~172. Experimental LR -5 (ouch) from PT23. There were a string of tough, super-curved PTs (notice them?)
I am on the whole happy... but it was not my height (178) to which I aspire. I am really freaked still because PT57 was so tough for me.
I'm feeling not too confident. Which sucks. Part of me wishes I never ordered PT57 and remained in ignorant bliss
Maybe I can learn something from this experience though. Hopefully I'm prepared. I figure I'll review some LGs and so forth, but it's too late to do anything drastic. Just take the test and wait.
Good luck everybody.

Seems like too many RCs... Maybe do one of each, and then see if one needs further brushing up? LOL it's too late to brush up... so just chill and do 3 max?hopefulundergrad wrote:For my last day of serious prep I'm think of doing 3RCs and a LR and LG. Thoughts? Too rigorous this close to Test Day?

PT 57
LG: -5
LR1: -3
RC: -2
LR2: -4
Raw: 87
Scaled: 168
I think I could've done better on the last section. I didn't start it until 12:50 or so, and I'm pretty tired. The Dinos didn't screw with me as badly as I expected, but I think knowing about that game made me attack the section differently than I would have otherwise, so it leaves me doubts about the validity of the PT.
And that will do it for me. No further full PTs. My scores went like this:
June 07 (cold): 160
PT 7: 159
PT 9: 166
PT 11: 165
PT 12: 163
PT 13: 163
PT 14: 165
PT 15: 165
PT 18: 174
PT 20: 170
PT 54: 166
PT 55: 166
PT 56: 168
PT 57: 168
Overall, I feel pretty good about Saturday, although I wish I would have quit my job a month ago to devote more time to prep. I imagine I will end up with a score somewhere between 165-170, which will be a little disappointing as I had really hoped to crack 170. I feel like I can live with a 166+ though.
I'll do a little more with the LRB and some timed sections tomorrow, but for the most part, let's get to Saturday.
LG: -5

Why did my RC skills just go down the tubes?
I've been -1/-0 the last 4 PTs and in the last 72hrs I've done 4 timed RC sections and I have been in the -3/-4 range and running out of time!

Re: The 160s Club! Join all ye 170 hopefuls!
Finally hit 170 on 4 timed sections
. Too bad it was a PT in the 30's
and the curve was huge (raw 87) and I also bombed the LG section which rarely happens to me (did really well on LR, which was supposedly easier then and RC, but the comparative passages don't really bother me although I'm pretty sure that's harder now too).
I have 4 timed on June '07 left and I'm going to go over some individual tricky problems in all areas, but that's it; I'm maxed out on the tests in the 50's... wish I had saved a bit for this week rather than trying to do them a few weeks ago.

Going out with a bang (or my first 170+ in weeks!)
PT 50
RC -3
LR -3
LG -1
LR -1
Raw +92
Scaled 172
I'm going to try really hard not to mess around on TLS all day tomorrow and I will definitely not be on this weekend, so best of luck to everyone on PT 58!! I hope once 10/19 rolls around we'll all be back on this thread congratulating each other on our excellent scores!

Today I did a RC, LG, and LR section. Tonight I will have a huge review session and might throw in an additional RC section since I've dropped off there a little lately.
Tomorrow I'm going to finish reading up this week's issue of The Economist, do 1 timed game and do a timed 10in10LR. Then relax, watch movies, have a hearty dinner and get a good night's rest before PT 58.

took my last PT today... PT56: LG-3, LR-3, LR-0, RC-3. I don't know why I was so retarded on LG, but whatever -9 = 172, so I'm feeling good.

Good luck everyone! I'm self-banning myself until scores are released. I can't torture myself like I did in June.

I will be doing the same starting in 16 minutes (which is when I leave work for the day). I will be checking PMs, but that's it. So, see you all mid-October!Bustang wrote:Good luck everyone! I'm self-banning myself until scores are released. I can't torture myself like I did in June.

Ugh... I wish I could too but I have Why X essays to write between Test Day and scores coming out and will definitely be needing feedback. Thankfully I didn't know about TLS when I first took last Oct, but I'm pretty confident going into Saturday so hopefully I won't be second-guessing as I leave the test center.NancyBotwin wrote:I will be doing the same starting in 16 minutes (which is when I leave work for the day). lol PT57, that was a horrible experience.
LG and RC were great, but I'm sorry, that LR came from out of no where!
