It's not so bad - I completed that section with -1 when I did it, but was over time due to the time sink.Mikey wrote:I've never done the mauve dinosaur game![]()

There's a couple of key deductions that drastically constrain the board. Really, I think the biggest thing that makes it difficult is the vocabulary, strangely for a game - although on the board you'll be using letters, the answer choices spell out all the types of dinosaur, so if you're not into them, they all look kinda similar, and blur into one. Keeping the Ultrasaurs and Tyranosaurs and Lambeosaurs apart was much more time consuming and mental-process consuming (for me) than keeping Uhura, Tom, and Laura apart.

Haha yeah I get you. I never got around to the PT that has that game in it, but this around I'll take that one for sure.kindofcanuck wrote:It's not so bad - I completed that section with -1 when I did it, but was over time due to the time sink.Mikey wrote:I've never done the mauve dinosaur game![]()

A lot of people say the airlines (PT 40 or 41 I forgot) game is really hard but when I did that game, I did it in like 7 mins and aced that shit and didn't see why people thought it was so hard, it's just a little different is all.
Also, I'm like half checked into December bc I'm still contemplating whether to sit this cycle out or not. I'll decide once I start to PT again.

Although I can't do June or Sept/Oct so it's all down to Decemeber or February for me.

Yeah, it definitely takes some pressure off. I'm KJD so I figure that taking the cycle off and getting at least 1 year of WE wouldn't hurt, and I'd have more time to study. This is my third take, so I really want to nail it because waiting for a fourth take would really suck.Rigo wrote:I'm 100% next cycle so less pressure.Mikey wrote: Also, I'm like half checked into December bc I'm still contemplating whether to sit this cycle out or not. I think I'm going to sprint for Dec, literally all of my average decline was from viruses (-5 on that game alone), I'm nervous though because its my third as well.Mikey wrote:Yeah, it definitely takes some pressure off. I'm gonna agree with Rigo here, take next October and use this summer to study with no distractions (no job and a regimented study schedule). there's absolutely no way studying during classes and taking the LSAT during finals week is the optimum time to maximize your score. I made this mistake of doing this last time. you definitely have the potential for 170+, but the few weeks between now and December likely won't get you there. if you have to think about whether you should postpone, you should postpone. this is probably the advice you yourself would give another TLSer I bet, so don't rush it!Mikey wrote:Yeah, it definitely takes some pressure off. Wound up doing PT62, section 3, for the colored glass windows, described one one list as "probably in the running for the second hardest game of all time".
Section was -4 (uck), missing 1 on all games. Colored glass was the second easiest game of the entire section, where I caught up a lot of time lost. The first and third games on the section were horrible, esp with the third which meant I only had three minutes left for the last game (fortunately, one of the easiest ever).
Takehome lesson: Lists of 'hardest games' are entirely from the perspective of the person writing the list, and their idea of 'hard' may be your 'thank god for something to catch up on the clock with'.
Yeah, all subjective for sure. Different games exploit our different strengths and weaknesses. If you're fluent in conditional logic and have done a fair amount of grouping/sequencing hybrid games, I think the Colored Glass and Dinosaur game won't be quite as terrible. I took pt62 for my diagnostic and armed with little to no LG skills, I shit the bed completely on that LG section, lol.
Haven't done mauve dinos yet, though. Soon enough, lol.
Nice job conquering some of the hardest games though fellas!

Very true. Thanks bro. Unless I miraculously start pting 175 or higher consistently within this month ( or whenever the half refund deadline is) then I'm def postponing!proteinshake wrote:I'm gonna agree with Rigo here, take next October and use this summer to study with no distractions (no job and a regimented study schedule). there's absolutely no way studying during classes and taking the LSAT during finals week is the optimum time to maximize your score. Yeah, I've been postponing since the day I took my diagnostic and had my hubris reduced to rubble. As you know I was slated for Sept/Dec originally and now I'm sitting out this cycle completely. Aiming for next June/September, so I'll be here with you Mikey
By next year scoring a 170s score will be about as hard and daunting as scoring a 160 is now. (At least that is what I lie and tell myself, lol) Plus I always forget you're still in undergrad. WE and time off will always be a good thing vis-a-vis law school! Here's to next year! haha

And for the afternoon session, did games from the official PT June 2007 (did it like a year ago, so fairly comprehensively forgotten). Nice to get a -0 with 5 mins remaining, I'd completely forgotten how easy that section was.

Re: The Official December 2016 Study Group - Time to register! New Poll!
Now that my melodrama about my September test score has somewhat passed, I'm kinda worried about my December test.
I'm going to return to studying this weekend. And looking at my September score report, if i didn't ABSOLUTELY TANK on RC, I would've been in a really good position for law school (I went like -16
)
I'm wondering if I have enough time to tighten up that section for a good score on the December test? And also prep LR some more because I could always use work there. I'm thinking of diving right on in and PTing like crazy so I'm not shocked like I was again. What do you guys think?
Edit: if I'm not PTing where I want like a week before my test I'm just gonna call a spade a spade. This would be my 3rd attempt (Dec 14, Sep 16) so a new one will open up next year.

It does, like -9 or something (too lazy to look it up), but I bet the psychological aspect of being like "oh hey games are super easy", for a new student, might then push students to focus on parts of the test that are a lot less learnable, like reading comprehension (because that was the hardest part of the sample PT IMO).Mikey wrote:Doesn't that test have a brutal curve though?kindofcanuck wrote:Hahaha, that'd be a cruel effort of them - so you're probably right!Greenteachurro wrote:Lol I swear to god that they gave out June 2007 as the free PT just to boost people's confidence on the games section. Yeah for sure, maybe you should do like full "pt's", like 5 sections of just RC, drill it into your head that RC is your new best friend lol. I was consistently going like -6 on RC ( I usually get hard carried by games and at least one section of LR into my best scores), and on test day I went -4. I think I was able to do that, because the weeks prior to the test I learned to love RC and tried to develop a consistent approach to RC.Hobbesy wrote:I'm really kicking myself because I put my all into LR and LG and it seems to have paid off.Greenteachurro wrote:Totally up to you! and how you feel about it, RC is totally learnable you just need to put in the time!Hobbesy wrote:Now that my melodrama about my September test score has somewhat passed, I'm kinda worried about my December test.

You might not want to do December though, because of how hard RC is to learn.
Do you usually do poorly on RC when you're just pt'ing?

This is great advice. RC is hands down my worst section as well (went -9 on test day, typically around -5 to -7). I'm definitely going to try that out this week. Any other tips to improve this section in the next six weeks?Greenteachurro wrote:

I went -16 on RC as well.. It really sucks because, like you, i was sure that I did ok. It is what it is though. I've decided to postpone my take because I don't think December is enough time for me. What is your way of doing RC? Notations? Just read?Hobbesy wrote:I'm really kicking myself because I put my all into LR and LG and it seems to have paid off.Greenteachurro wrote:Totally up to you! and how you feel about it, RC is totally learnable you just need to put in the time!Hobbesy wrote:Now that my melodrama about my September test score has somewhat passed, I'm kinda worried about my December test.

I'm obviously not the best RC'er but I watched this video (50 minutes) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6a2w260Ob6w , its by the guy who got a 180 and then posted that super comprehensive guide to the LSAT on TLS, and I think the main take away was that when you're reading RC try to visualize and understand as much as the passage as you can. Like if the passage is talking about a red fire truck, try to go ahead and think about stuff that you would normally associate with a red fire truck (firemen, danger, civic duty, fire hose, etc...) and then that type of visualization can help you understand a lot about the passage.Vino.Veritas wrote:This is great advice. That type of strategy is particularly useful for any art passages that will be thrown at you.
Also I drill using this https://7sage.com/lsat-reading-comprehe ... ry-method/
which has helped a lot
