Re: The Official February 2016 Waiter's Thread
I'm waiting to really ask this question until after I have a score, but maybe while we are all waiting some of you might indulge me.
I know softs don't matter, trends don't matter, etc, etc... You have a pie chart with a massive slice called "LSAT", a just slightly less massive slice called "GPA", and a tiny sliver called "Did you medal at the Olympics and win a Nobel?".
But let's say I have a marginal GPA for top schools. ~3.6x. Over time, my GPA was 3.2 for my first two years of college and 4.0 in more, and higher level classes, for my last two years.
On its own, I know that doesn't matter. But would an elite LSAT score get them to pause, look into the GPA, and care at all? I help one median, hurt the other, but give them confidence I can handle the work? Or do they not give a fuck? At all.
Also, good luck to everybody applying this year. I'm not until next fall, so you lot can have all of my good fortune until then (well, after I get my score back).

Re: The Official February 2016 Waiter's Thread
Yeah it happens all the time, they're called splitters. How the school looks at splitters will vary. Some schools like Northwestern are historically very splitter friendly, others like Berkeley have a reputation for valuing GPA over LSAT (these are just the examples that popped up in my head, certainly not an exhaustive list). So yeah, crush the LSAT and there are still a lot of doors open to you.jb111 wrote:I'm waiting to really ask this question until after I have a score, but maybe while we are all waiting some of you might indulge me.

To answer your other question, an upward GPA trend is better than the opposite, it can help in some circumstances but they'll still be mainly looking at the overall GPA.

You don't want the surrounding area anyway, unless you're wealthy. It's literally in between Brentwood and Westwood, among the most expensive, wealthiest areas in the US. You have to look around Culver City, and spots in Santa Monica for good deals. That's an exception you make for the weather, and UCLA.

Re: The Official February 2016 Waiter's Thread
If your GPA is above the 75th and your LSAT is under the 25th, you'd be what's known as a "reverse splitter." This is almost purely speculation, but from what I can tell it largely depends on the school(s) in question and the cycle they are currently having. By that I mean, let's say that they've had tons of high LSAT applicants but relatively fewer high GPA applicants. In that case being a reverse splitter would probably help you. Also, some schools are known to favor high GPAs (Berkeley is an example) and others are known to favor high LSATs (Columbia and NYU are examples). But even in those cases I would venture to say, again speculation, that the scenario I described above could still apply, as its not like Columbia and NYU's GPA numbers are abysmal, nor is Berkeley's LSAT figure abysmal.zeglo wrote:Hello. I am a new poster to this forum. This February test was my first since I am applying next cycle. The wait is unbearable. Just a few questions make a huge difference.
Also, if my GPA is above the 75th percentile, how much can it offset LSAT?

Forgot to reset my brain to handle game 3...I went -7 on games >_< when I usually go -1/-0. It was the most discouraging experience I've ever had. I was on pace for just above 170 as wellMint-Berry_Crunch wrote:Forgot to reset my watch during games and that killed me I was on pace for a 170RonnyDiniro wrote:Mint-Berry_Crunch wrote:October 2017tedofsandimas wrote:I am tipsy and working on homeworkMint-Berry_Crunch wrote:Why aren't people drunk posting.

This is really random but I just read on Buzzfeed that some Australian man is funding an exact replica of the Titanic (minus the iceberg part, plus modern technology) to set sail in 2018. Maybe I'm weird but I'm fascinated by the Titanic (and the movie too…s/o to young Leonardo)…….but it said people were offering $1 million to go
there goes my dream you rich a-holes

I would like them if they ever ended. I have like fifteen settlements. People keep getting kidnapped and other people want to join and all this other madness. And those flare guns are useless. Useless I tell you.Shib26 wrote:ugh, the worstazaleafire wrote:I got so bored yesterday I worked out. Twice. How long does it actually take LSAC to grade our exams?

I think that upgrade falls under the modern technology umbrella. They probably still have the old wheel as a prop though. Everything looks the exact same..down to the bedrooms & elevators & even the gym.
