Crowd sourcing - when you notice that you're starting to run out of time, what is your game plan for each respective section? Specifically looking for strategies for LR. Do you just keep going through the Q's in order, or do you jump around and look for stems that you are comfortable with and answer those first?
And yes, I know that by game day a person should be comfortable with every sort of stem. But humor me.

hey there stranger, hows ur prep coming??MEAhrnsbrak wrote:That's awesome!! Congrats!!Dirigo wrote:Just did another RC section and got -1! This time I finished at 33:40 but was able to go back to a question I wasn't sure about, re-read it, and changed my incorrect answer to a correct one! WooHoo.
I'm hoping I can solidify my improved RC in these next couple of weeks so I pick up at least a few points more points than my average of around -6.

I tend to jump to the smaller looking questions which is stupid bc there are plenty of times where I do that and the small question tends to give me a hard time and I look at ones I skipped and they were easy, I would say glance at the stem and if its a type that generally takes up some time avoid it deciding what to skip isnt funShakawkaw wrote:Crowd sourcing - when you notice that you're starting to run out of time, what is your game plan for each respective section? Re: The Official December 2014 Study Group
Took RC and LG from PT40 this morning, both fresh sections. Went -1/-1, which was pretty encouraging. That Zephyr Airlines game was weird, but I didn't think it was especially difficult.
I'm starting to believe that my high retake PT scores are indicative of at least some level of skill increase, beyond just basic familiarity. Before September, I was hovering around -4/-5 for most fresh RC sections, and on test day I went -7 in RC and -4 in LG. I'm scheduled to take another 10 RC and 10 LG sections (41 - 51, almost all fresh) between now and Dec. 6th, in addition to 6 more PT retakes. Hopefully that will be enough to shore up my skills in those sections.
Happy studying!

The bolded is me. Like random question XX gets me stuck spinning my wheels and then exactly, instead of accepting the sunk cost I stick with it and keep trying to figure it out only to have my timing shot for the subsequent questions because I spent 3 "questions worth" of time on stupid question XX.Big Red wrote:I only really run into time issues when I get stuck on a question early, so really for me it's not so much skipping a certain question type as it is accepting sunk cost on a question that isn't clicking.Shakawkaw wrote:Crowd sourcing - when you notice that you're starting to run out of time, what is your game plan for each respective section? That said, I usually skip Parallels on my first run though and longer worded questions if I'm in a bind (which, as Jgoods pointed out, is often a mistake)

Re: The Official December 2014 Study Group
Currently going through old materials to see which fresh sections I have left. Very amusing to see RC sections that are only a quarter done. September me was hilarious(ly lazy and hated RC). December me still hates RC. But yay more prep!
Thanks to everyone for their responses re: skipping around when you're running out of time. I certainly find that it's an issue for me when I allow myself to get into a time suck situation with a question. I'm working on my issues regarding stubbornness!

So much this. I can't believe how ridiculous I was about the most insignificant things. I was so emotionally invested in my PT scores that I did everything in my power to get myself in the ideal frame of mind to take them, which is a surefire way to ruin their predictive value.Big Red wrote:I was pretty crazy irrational the last week or so before the test
Also should have spent less time worrying about health and wellness minutiae and more time drilling my face off.

Re: The Official December 2014 Study Group
I pretty much left a lot of RC sections untouched the last two weeks of Sept. because I didn't want to deal with the confidence drop. RC is the most sporadic section for me in terms of score.Big Red wrote:Heh found like 3 of these yesterday and took a moment to judge myself.Shakawkaw wrote:Very amusing to see RC sections that are only a quarter done.
