Re: The Official June 2016 Study Group
So I am new to LSAT. I am 18 years old. I dual enrolled and graduated with my associates degree before I graduated high school so I am currently in my junior year of college. I am taking the June 2016 LSAT, and I am really only shooting for the 165-167 range because I just really want to go to Florida State University. It is only an hour and a half from home and so that would be ideal. My GPA is a 3.85 and I am studying every day for the LSAT. My biggest issue as of now is my timing. I am taking 2 minutes and sometimes a little more on each question but I am getting the answers right. I just really need to improve my time. Any suggestions? My husband says that my time will get better as I practice more, but any tips would be appreciated.

But he's right, my time definitely improved a lot as I took more timed test and got more comfortable with the questions. Accuracy is the most important to focus on first, then speed will gradually improve through lots of practice. If you are already getting most answers right, I would go ahead and time your tests/sections.

Not the one to judge but you're 18 and married? And going to law school by 19? Das insaneeehatchercami wrote:So I am new to LSAT. I am 18 years old. Haha. The Lord's timing is key. I agree that it's pretty crazy. I do however feel that being ahead has only been beneficial so far. I learn a lot more from my older peers than I would from my just graduated high school peers. I like being proactive and reaping the benefits of my hard work sooner rather than later. I am nervous that I will be at a disadvantage in professional school competing with peers who have much more worldly knowledge and experience.

It was a really hard decision for me, bc I wanted to be done with the LSAT. At the end of the day though it's all about the score, and being at your best and that suit won out.Cozy wrote:ngogirl12 wrote:So sorry to hear thatCozy wrote:Hey y'all. I scored much worse that expected on my December LSAT, so I'm putting aside tons of time to study for this one. I'm in my last semester of undergrad and I'm only taking three classes to finish, so hopefully I'll be much less stressed while studying.
Hoping there are some other retakers lurking. I'm a little embarrassedI was prepping for December but around beginning of November realized I wasn't prepared and decided to go for June instead.
Side note.. I LOVE your avatar.. crazy cat/kitten/feline person here
Thank you! Should have probably done what you did. I don't think I was mentally prepared for December.
And if law school doesn't work out, I plan to use the money I've saved for it to open a cat cafe instead haha
Also, would love to frequent your cat cafe haha.. I'm dying to get a kitten after I get my baller job (whenever that is

I'm waiting until I start PTing in February to register, don't want to push the cart before the horse!
I took a selfie post a holiday party and the background is white, I'm wearing a white sweater top, so I hope that one will work for me!

I think a tutor will be good if you have some holes you want to hone in on, or if you are in a certain range and can't get out and don't understand why. If you are beginning your prep through books, online course material, and haven't really gotten through the material, I would wait until you PT regularly and have the foundation of the different parts of the test to use a tutor.josh9308 wrote:Any of you guys get an individual tutor? Any recommendations?

It should work! Once you go register for the June test it tells you what kind of picture they accept. Pretty sure it's the same requirements as the photo you need for actual test day.. but I could be wrong.ngogirl12 wrote:Nope. Re: The Official June 2016 Study Group
I think the key is to drill the questions by type first so LR types, RC, and LG and then once you feel you have a solid grasp/foundation on all that start taking PT's timed. That's my strategy first go through the Cambridge LR questions by type after doing the lessons in my books/online curriculum, and drilling LG timed, and also going through RC books and then once I have gone through all that material start PTing in February. I think once you have seen a plethora of questions and understand how to deal with them, your timing will automatically be hastened.hatchercami wrote:So I am new to LSAT. I am 18 years old. Re: The Official June 2016 Study Group
Honestly just read a lot of dense/dull material. I personally have been reading articles from The Economist magazines (with a cup of coffee in my hand to prevent me from falling asleep), and it's been helping me a lot more with preparing for RC. I would also suggest that you try and memorize the main points/authors tone throughout the article so by the end of it you can kinda get the whole picture about what it's about. Doing that makes answering the questions after much easier. And If when you are answering questions you come across a difficult question, skip it and go back to it in the end in order to not waste time and get more questions answered.luckycharmz wrote:I'm starting to lean towards a June rewrite after getting scores back last night! Re: The Official June 2016 Study Group
Hey I'm Diana! Scored a very sad 156 on the December test. I was only PTing around 161, but was still shocked with the 156 because I didn't feel that I had done worse than my usual tests. Definitely retaking in June and hoping that is plenty of time to get above 160 consistently.
I know I'm not getting into a T14 school- have a 3.6 GPA from Penn State. I'm thinking that with a 163 I could be in good shape for some decent schools, so that is the realistic goal (anything higher would be acceptable as well
).
I enrolled in 2 different Kaplan courses before my December tests and both were cancelled the week before starting for not having enough people enrolled. I ended up not taking a class at all because there was nothing else offered anywhere near me at that point. I instead met with a tutor, which I thought was helping, but during our 2 months together my score stayed the same so who knows... I have done pretty much every PT out there as well as all of the Powerscore Bibles and Type-Training Books. From here I would love to know what everyone suggests in terms of studying moving forward, as well as the best prep courses.
I'm scoring about -7 across each section. That is with 2-3 on average unanswered/completely guessing.
Best of luck to everyone in the next 5 months! Let's do this!

Yeah, I guess individual structure and more one-on-one time instead of pandering to the class. I already have the basics down from the LSAT. I just need to improve my weaknesses.sephora_addict wrote:Why do you feel that an individual tutor would be best for you instead of a class? Are you looking for structure? I told myself after deciding on taking the December test "This is it. No more."
Now I'm probably going to join you guys. I haven't really analyzed my scores yet and probably will do that later this week/weekend. Unfortunately, where I lost points it was fairly evenly distributed between 3 sections, so I am hoping that when I look at them, it's more or less that I bombed a specific type of passage or most of my mistakes in LR were 1 or 2 types of questions.
