A million people have said take it later.mattsmith216 wrote:And for those who still like to chime in, the question is not whether one should do a JD/MD. The question is what is the best scenario to take the LSAT given that one wants to get into a JD/MD program after undergrad.
So please, if you need to chime in with your wisdom that one should not do a JD/MD, I thank you, but it's not what I'm asking. At this point, I have given up on getting any sort of real comment, it's pretty much more amusing to see how many people are going to respond to anything but the actual question.

Re: Should a HS senior take the LSAT in Sept?
You should spend this summer working on your attitude. College is your chance to reinvent yourself, and if your posts here are any indication of your personality, you should probably do that.
FYI your high of 166 on an untimed PT isn't even that good. I bet most people could get that without a time constraint, so (surprise!) you may be overestimating your abilities. Just wait. College will sharpen your intellect and give you a much better base score, so if after 3 years you still haven't come to your senses about the MD/JD thing, you can waste 3 years of your life and $200,000 of your parents' money at a much better school.

There's no harm in taking it now. Nobody goes from a 170 to a 150. If he does well enough he could tutor. There might be some reverse age discrimination, but if he could make 25-30/hour for a company during the summer that's a lot better than waiting tables for 10/hour.

Take it in 3 years after 1) you've decided you still want to be a doctor 2) you have sufficient grades and softs to get into med school.mattsmith216 wrote:Again, thanks for not answering when I should take the MCAT to enter a JD/MD program but instead answer why I should not go into a JD/MD program.

I feel like OP is one of those people who bases his self-worth off of standardized test scores, and now he's suffering withdrawal and panicking because he won't have any standardized tests to take for 3 years.ditch digger wrote:OP, didn't you just take the SAT?

Re: Should a HS senior take the LSAT in Sept?
There is no upside to taking your LSAT now because:mattsmith216 wrote:Took it twice. Oct 13 and Jan 14. Decent scores. Got free ride to state school. Got into some better schools but GPA not high enough to get sufficient merit scholarship.ditch digger wrote:OP, didn't you just take the SAT?
Short story: Goof off most of high school. Decent but not great GPA. Decent SAT scores 1st time, and much better 2nd time after applying myself and studied. Don't want to goof off in college like I did in high school. Time to get serious. Trying to do a little planning. Looks like I'm in the wrong place.
1. They expire
2. They don't take a lot of time to prep for the LSAT, so you wont gain anything.
3. You are going to be taking the test before having a chance to actually do real work (since you slacked in HS) so your RC will be lower than it will be in three years
4. There is a non-trivial chance that the LSAT will not be required if you do a joint degree. Many schools are moving away from it for MDs.
5. You can't be a doctor/lawyer anymore because its not a thing. However, you obviously want to have two sets of skills, so you should wait and see how Obamacare, the recession, and the your interests shape future choices. It might turn out that you would be better off as a JD/MPH or a JD/PharmD. Or as MPH/DO, etc.
6. If you have your LSAT on your record now, you are going to have to immediately apply to law school which is going to negatively affect your chances since you will have no expericences and will be boring. Its also going to be very hard to convince med schools that you have an interest in actually practicing.

Op this isn't a fucking LSAT question. In real life people give broad advice when they think someome is misguided. If you disagree with the advice, fine.
Just because a program exists doesn't mean it's worth anything in today's market. There are tons of useless dual degree programs out there.

And, as has been mentioned, a JD/MBA is almost always a pretty bad idea, but for the sake of argument let's say you're going to gun for it: you realize every MBA program worth going to pretty much requires two years of work experience, right?
So, take the LSAT now + four years of college + two years of W/E = have to take LSAT again.

Sounds like that dude's problems stem from his low diagnostic. We're not all drones just because there wasn't some silver bullet to pull his score up from a 145.mattsmith216 wrote:http://top-law-schools.com/forums/viewt ... 6&t=224337jkhalfa wrote:Link?mattsmith216 wrote:Pretty amusing in light of lawschool2014hopeful's blog where he mentions the TLS drones.
the blog is in the first post.
And yeah, I don't want to be all "listen to your elders," but, like the other guy said, your plan is extremely misguided. An MD/JD is just plain stupid. If you think it's worth the time and money, you're letting the supposed prestige of two professional degrees blind you. Recognize that you're only 17 years old and have very little life experience and generally don't know what you're talking about.
An MD is a good goal to strive for if you really want to be a doctor. Just don't assume it will be easy, because it won't be. Furthermore, if you just want to get rich quick or seem smart, go be an investment banker, software engineer, bioengineer, or something else.

Thank you. But I didn't ask or come anywhere close to asking how much the program is worth.Balthy wrote:Just because a program exists doesn't mean it's worth anything in today's market. There are tons of useless dual degree programs out there.
In the second quote i was responding to what you said earlier, that these programs must have some value if they're offered at so many schools.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
