Guess it's time to hit the PTs and books. Thanks a lot!NoodleyOne wrote:Incremental with some swings up and down. Thanks a lot for this. I am not a retaker, though I am scheduled to take the LSAT in December. I never knew about the resources of LsatQA, they seem like they can help me pinpoint my weaknesses.

Props to Noodley for turning me on to Manhattan LR in a help thread I posted. LR is now my strongest section.

Ditto. I remember your response to one of my first posts, LG guide from MSLAT has really made LG seem approachable for me, when I was convinced before I couldn't make it through that section.
To add to LSATQA, I think its important to log as much as you can into it. It won't become a good indicator of your weaknesses until you have say, 5 PTs worth of sections into it. Logging solo sections into it is almost more useful than PTs if you are suffering in one section more than others, I would do a bunch of solo sections to pinpoint the types of problems you're struggling on.
Keep in mind there's no option for guessing, so if you're timing out its better to leave guesses as omits so your weaknesses aren't skewed.

Re: The NoodleyOne's Foolproof Guide to a 180 for Retakers
I'm out of drilling material and only have 6 untouced PTs (mostly in the 60s). I intend to take two PTs a week from now until December, including the 6 most recent PTs I did before October. I peaked at 171 two weeks before October but withdrew before the test because my scores noticeably dropped and I may have overstudied. With that said, I'm almost done revisiting the reading material, and after that I will just take the PTs and review wrong answers on other tests. I vary from -0 to -5 on LG, so I will go over many games again. Some of them a fourth or even fifth time. Is it possible to have any major LG breakthroughs at this point? I fear that I just have a natural limit on how fast I can solve a new game. Comments and/or suggestions welcomed!

In for the ensuing hilarity if NoodleyOne fails, minor congratulations if he succeeds.

Eh, hilarity will be minimal. I've been pretty open with how I feel about the test, but if I fall short, I'll gladly wear the egg on my face for a day before I come back with an alt.Kronk wrote:In for the ensuing hilarity if NoodleyOne fails, minor congratulations if he succeeds.

IDK dude, not trying to be mean, but you did count your chickens before they hatched to say the least with the whole "Foolproof Guide to 180" thing...NoodleyOne wrote: Eh, hilarity will be minimal.
I wish you luck, but at least right now this thread seems painfully premature (to the extent you are offering advice based on your own experience of perfect or near perfect score on retake). You'll def having bragging rights if you pulled it off (or were extremely close), and your advice for prep seems solid regardless, but I can see people getting a pretty big kick out of it if you fall on your face given how (ridiculously) confident you come off. But again, kudos if you did ace it, and perhaps delete the thread if you didn't? Maybe rethink that alt thing too? (kidding... I should probably be using an alt lol).

It's kind of like if LeBron James had come out with a "Foolproof Guide to Winning the NBA Championship for Retakers" after losing to the Mavericks. He might do it, but it doesn't make it any less ridiculous given the circumstances.

What was your original score? (if you mind me asking)
And what was your diagnostic?
EDIT:
Was your study plan from before the same described in this forum?

And no, my study plan wasn't very good the first time. I only had six weeks, and didn't spend enough time, but it mainly consisted of LRB and LGB with PTs. No drilling by type and no real process. I started PTing pretty highly (low 170s with some jumps to the mid 170s), so I got pretty cocky and relaxed too much late in the game, and was not able to adapt to test day conditions.

Re: The NoodleyOne's Foolproof Guide to a 179 for Retakers
Noodley,
Question on games retake strategy.
So I took the LSAT in October and scored a 167 -- I went -5 on RC and LR combined, and -9 on games (ugh). My prep has been comprehensive, meaning I've exhausted every PT and have devoted considerable time and effort to this miserable exam. The problem I consistently run into, particularly on the more recent PTs, are "weird" games (e.g. stained glass, the bike game, zones, and the first game on October).
I feel like I've internalized the common patterns well and that I can handle standard game types, but how would you go about prepping for curve balls? I'm good about learning from mistakes on these sorts of games, and tend not to repeat them, but I do struggle on the first pass.
I'm unsure how to proceed, so I'd be curious to hear your (or anyone else's thoughts).
Thanks.

Re: The NoodleyOne's Foolproof Guide to a 179 for Retakers
I'm in a similar position (cancel-167-179), and I was almost all self-study. The only book I used was this one. I know it's positively ancient by LSAT prep standards, but I went through it a total of twice (half-assed it before my first two LSATs and went through for real before my last one) and came out with games being my favorite, best section by far. It might help. Aside from that, sheer repetition was the trick for me. Not much help, probably, but it's all I got. Best of luck!SantIvo wrote:Noodley,
