Re: The Official June 2015 Waiter's Thread
Aw man, I'm jealous. We only passed through a few on a road trip but it's definitely something I want to do again before law school. Redwood is pretty amazing too.BirdLawExpert wrote:I spent March and January driving around National Parks. Went to Guadalupe Mountains, Carlsbad Caverns, Big Bend, Grand Canyon, Joshua Tree, Death Valley, Yosemite, Kings Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Zion, Canyonlands, Yellowstone, Rocky Mountains, Great Sand Dunes, and Grand Teton.doublehoohopeful wrote:I think Yosemite is my favorite that I've been to. We went from Vegas to San Jose in one day and cut through Death Valley and Yosemite. It's crazy to think they're right next to each other.BirdLawExpert wrote:I have also made that horribly empty drive, but I loved Yellowstone a whole bunch.doublehoohopeful wrote:I edited my original post, my impression of the state is colored by the boring drive from Yellowstone to Denver.BirdLawExpert wrote:Have you been to Wyoming? It's freaking gorgeous. Yellowstone is there. Automatic tier 1.doublehoohopeful wrote:Montana is wickedly beautiful. Glacier National Park is just unreal.BirdLawExpert wrote:I've been to forty states. I won't rank them 1-40, but I'll put them in tiers. This is good procrastination, and is based purely on my own experience.
Tier 1- At least one overwhelmingly world class city, an overwhelming degree of natural beauty, or both.
Alaska, California, Colorado, Oregon, Washington, Hawaii, Texas, New York, Wyoming, Utah, Illinois, and North Carolina.
Tier 2- Some solid cities, at least one good university, better-than-average outdoor offerings or some good museums.
Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina, Nevada, Arizona, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Louisiana, Virginia, Kentucky, Missouri, Maryland, and Massachusetts.
Tier 3- Good and bad equal out.
Kansas, Nebraska, Arkansas, Iowa, Rhode Island, Wisconsin, New Mexico, Alabama, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and Connecticut.
Tier 4- Less than average. Not terrible but just meh.
Oklahoma.
States I haven't been to:
Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Idaho, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and West Virginia.
You lost credibility when you put Wyoming in tier 1.
Yosemite was magnificent, one of my favorites, but something about Zion is just different than the rest. I only camped at about half of them, but I definitely recommend everyone check all of those out.

The calzone scandal affected my vote in the poll.

Re: The Official June 2015 Waiter's Thread
You should've gone to Mammoth Cave...it's the longest cave system in the world! And it's beautiful. Also would've loved the Maker's Mark distillery cause it's so historic & pretty there. Or just do the whole Bourbon trail! ALSO should've seen University of Kentucky cause the city it's in is gorgeousss with the horse farms. Just my two cents since you seem to love to travelBirdLawExpert wrote:The beautiful campus of Eastern Kentucky University, the Jim Beam distillery, and went whitewater kayaking on a couple of rivers. And I flew into Kentucky on my way to Miami (OH).AbbeyS wrote: Birdman, what did you visit when you came to Kentucky?
