Thats monster for 2 tests back to back especially! Great work. Interesting that you did significantly better on test 2. Maybe just had an off-section with the first RC i guess.galeatus wrote:Weirdly that 8-section marathon didn't feel as tiring as I thought it would be...
PT71: LR -3, LG -1, LR -1, RC -6 (wtf) for 172
PT55: LR -1, RC -2, LR -1, LG -0 for 177
Have been bombing RC consistently in the last couple of PTs (-5 on PT63 & -6 here) - that should buff out after some more RC drilling so not too worried, but very much annoyed by misreading the question stem twice and going -2 more than I should have, WHY OH WHY OH WHY CAN'T I STOP MAKING STUPID MISTAKES. /rant
Ignoring PT55 as I've done a lot of the questions in it before during drilling so not exactly a new PT.

Thanks! Honestly, it just kinda happened. I kept drilling drilling drilling. and suddenly it started to click more. LG was mainly what was holding me back initially and I kept working on LR too and eventually started getting those numbers down. If you just keep grinding it will surprise you out of nowhere. I really have just been making sure I relax/take my time and focus. Also I think LR and RC came "Easier" for me because all this passed year I was studying for and taking the GMAT and they are very similar so add that practice onto it...appind wrote:nice work.jagerbom79 wrote:Wooooottt! Gotta keep this up. Going to PT with the tests in the 70s. Next one I am taking is Saturday. Review and drilling tomorrow.

Score: 169.
They thought they could mess me up with their intricate examination of old photography techniques but little do those bastards know, I love photography. Don't want to get too happy though, I still want to get my scores up above 170 again.

I've taken GMAT for a 700+ score once but gmat rc is a joke compared to lsat rc, which is what is my main weak spot. Lucky you that lg was your weak spot as it's very improvable.jagerbom79 wrote:Thanks! Honestly, it just kinda happened. I kept drilling drilling drilling. and suddenly it started to click more. So I have spent this whole week replaying my LR performance on pt-73 in my head.
I think at least 2 of its LR question are focused on testing very non-standardized logic. Things that they've never tested before. How do those who excel at LR or did 73 handle such qs?
People say recent lr is more standardized and clear, but this LR flies in its face.

Yeah LSAT RC is definitely much tougher (700+ here as well)...RC has always been my best SAT/ACT/GMAT, so I guess I was just able to adapt to it. But from a practice standpoint of doing something similar for months on end and being familiar with blah passages, I think it helped me prepare for LSAT.appind wrote:I've taken GMAT for a 700+ score once but gmat rc is a joke compared to lsat rc, which is what is my main weak spot. I mentioned this to Mikey I think...What I think that help me tremendously is very actively reading (Underlining, circling, jotting 2-3 word notes all around). Most passages, especially ones on topics I don't mesh with well, I destroy as far as notes. I am able to do it fast and effectively and retain almost everything first read through or at least map the passage effectively so I can find things. I know most don't do that for RC, but that is something I have found that allows me to read the passage once and retain most of it. If i don't i find myself having to stop and re-read because I felt like afte reading something it went straight over my head. I started actively reading (Not as much) with LR as well. I definitely don't just underline everything for no reason..its systematic
I started just doing it because I remembered that in school my notes and textbooks are highlighted and marked up like no other hahaha... I guess thats just the way my mind works

I think this was discussed before..but
When JY splits the game board up, do you guys typically do that? I have done it sometimes when its maybe just split into a second board, but for timing reasons it seems like anymore than that is too much...Do you guys feel the same way or is my pace just a little off?
I know it would be ideal to split but is it always practical

I'll split into up to 4-6 depending on number of worlds. It makes a lot of questions take seconds to do since you already have all the possible options. If you happened to mess up a rule/inference though it can murder you on time...

PT 74: 166
LR: -3
LG: -3 (couldn't get to 2, 1 wrong)
RC: -7 (i hate RC. HATE IT.)
LR: -4
I took the LSAT last October and December, canceled October score and did worse than I'd been PTing in December (totally regret taking the LSAT during my most difficult semester/senior year of ungrad).
RC has always been bad, and while my approach does feel like it's improved this round of studying, I can't decide if I should even bother devoting most of my time to improving RC or just focusing on crushing LG and LR, which feels more doable.
166-168 is my target range, but these PT I've been taking are ones I took when I last studied, so I'm also nervous they're not representative of what I'll actually do on the real thing.

I was trying to split when possible before but I found myself spending too much time trying to determine if spliting the board would be helpful. Then I would sometimes mess up an inference and get screwed.malysh wrote:jagerbom79 wrote:I think this was discussed before..but

Since I stopped trying to split whenever possible, my scores and timing in LG have gone way up. I think it's because the splitting method wasn't naturally playing to my strengths. I realize the helpfulness of it but, personally, it hurts me more than helps me.
That being said...there are obvious situations when I know to split the board up. These just occur much less often for me than they do for JY

I split the board whenever it seems intuitive to do so. I think there have been a couple of times where JY did it and I didn't feel the need to, but for almost all cases, splitting the boards saves much more time than it takes.jagerbom79 wrote:I think this was discussed before..but

TBH. I'm not generally a huge fan of splitting unless I feel like I'm hitting a wall... or if it's something where you actually get a lot... fairly common with layered sequencing. I'm not a fan of making four boards that all have dual options. I rather just rule drive. Sometimes I'll make a board that I have a feeling is a MBF just so I can jot it down.ashrice13 wrote:I was trying to split when possible before but I found myself spending too much time trying to determine if spliting the board would be helpful. I've been going back through the Cambridge packets... in the past three or so days I've done all in-out(forgot to write time down, but I jotted redo on some so maybe I checked timing after each game), miscellaneous, determined assignment, and undetermined assignment. I'll do the same for ordering and grouping so I have a list of every game that took too long or I missed a question on. Out of my recent run thru, -3 on all misc games, -7 on all undetermined assignment, -5 on determined assignment, and -3 on in/out. My list is probably harsher than it needs to be (i.e. I'm redoing games that took 9:30 rather than 9:00). Ill do games I was slow on for time. Ill do games for speed and then perfect solution and watch JY.
Games aren't bad though. I can sit down and do them for 6 hours and not really feel the LSAT burn.

I want to take the few days before test day to not do anything, which is why this is a change of plans. Shit guys, I'm starting to get really nervous again.

Okay thanks for all of your input! This is how I felt about it. I typically dont split unless im stuck and i think itll help me. I am taking at similar strat as you 34iplaw and am grinding through games now...new and redos.. but with PS Game Type books since I unfortunately am a sucker and don't have the Cambridge packets34iplaw wrote:TBH. ashrice13 thats what was happening to me. Splitting is def the most clear/easy way to solve if time isnt of the essence but sometimes I felt like i was taking too much time splitting and not taking advantage of it.
I guess my approach is fine and by drilling Ill get faster and more effective with initial inferences.
Cheers
