One thing worth noting is that since I've mostly done older tests it's still possible that RC will screw me over. I'm hoping that practice will compensate for the increased difficulty of the newer RC sections and I'll be able to maintain my -1/-2 scores there, but you never know.

I averaged -0 or -1 on RC in the 50s (maybe 4 exams), then 60s I am averaging -3 to -5 on RC (66,67,68), as a personal anecdote. RC is frustrating me because I am getting maybe -3 or -4 on the rest of the test.

Took PT 55 today

LR: -1
RC: -9
LR: -2
LG: -3 :? (the last game was super hard)

I'm at my wits end with studying for RC. I drilled it all week, but to no avail. It's really souring the achievement that I'm getting with these LR scores. (I started off with LR scores of -7 when I first started studying a few months ago).

With RC at -9 it's quite embarrassing and I'm not really sure what to do. I suppose I will keep drilling, because that's all I really know how to do. I need to somehow get faster at doing it, but if I try to go faster at all, accuracy takes an even worse nose-dive.

For anyone who's taken them: is there anything I should know about? Or do they seem in line with what you saw in 70-72?

Oh also I figured I'd just edit this post instead of making a new one: I'm trying to drill some of the lesser seen game types in case they bring back old ones like they did with 72: so far on my list I have mapping, circular, and pattern. Am I missing anything?
I just took 74 yesterday. Seemed pretty standard.
How's the prep going?

Btw, I wanted to ask earlier as you were talking about making changes to your RC approach ... what sort of things did you change? And is it still going well?
Also curious to see what Jackel did to switch up the RC approach :)

I haven't had as much time of late to dedicate to taking PTs. The last two I've done were PT 12 and 13.

12:
LG: -2 (uncharacteristically bad)
LR1: -1
LR2: 0
RC: -2
score: 175

13:
LG: -1 (sigh)
LR1: -3
LR2: -1
RC: -2
score: 176 (generous curve)

Yesterday I took PT 40 and 41 together for a nasty 8 s test. Will finish BRing it tomorrow.

And this is why no one likes you. Okay.
I've been browsing this forum for a couple months now and find it a helpful resource, but the idea that most people here are elite scorers and much smarter than average is silly. The posters here consist of a small minority who have gotten elite scores and a large majority who WANT to get elite scores. RZ is in the latter category and has been for over a year now.
I mean, that's mostly because I'm lazy and haven't actually taken an official test yet. I'd say the more recent half of my PTs have all been "elite scores."

I also don't really understand the relationship between the quoted material and your comment. There was no claim about what proportion of TLSers are "smart" or "elite," so you seem to be in straw man territory.
It's because you're not that good at the test and unconfident about how you're going to do. Accordingly, you postponed until October so not sure why you're still posting in this thread.

Anyone on TLS can claim that they've scored high on some PTs. It's a convenient way to win the respect of other TLSers. But these claims of eliteness cannot be verified and in many cases are suspect.

A great example is you boasting that "my LR average is like -0.5". That would mean on every LR section you miss either zero or one. I call bullshit on that.
lol its funny bc RZ used to(maybe still does? idk TLS is boring) say the SAME THING

if you're wondering why I'm quoting from so far back its bc thats where I last was and too lazy to catch up so sticking with page I'm on

My scores aren't even high enough to be suspect though... if you're going to call someone out for potentially exaggerating, target the people who say they got 170+ diagnostics instead of someone like me who does well but not extraordinarily so.

LR LR LR LR LR LR

I seem to consistently get -4 to -5 on LR sections. This really impacts my score and it is incredibly frustrating since this is such a learnable section. Granted, my score is no where near as high as some people on this board (yep, haven't been able to break 170 like some really talented people here) but I think it's because I really underperform on this section. If I can master this then I think I'll be ok.

I am also doing the 7Sage method for RC because I've tried everything else to bring up my RC score, and have failed (my last PT I was -8 on this section). My biggest problem is timing, so if I can fix that (and combine that with accuracy) then Ill be good to go in two weeks.

And for LG, I'm just doing timed drills.

And if this doesn't work then thank God for October

Doing about 6-7 PTs -- each one being a 6 section test, and lots of drilling on LR. Also every day I do 2 RC passages.

Hopefully limiting jetlag. I have a destination-wedding to attend on the Friday before the test, then will fly to France to write it in Paris on the Tuesday morning. Should hopefully be okay...

Taking a PT today, then drilling Reading Comp and LR at work during the week, hopefully drilling LG when I get home from work every day if I'm not too tired, then doing more PTs next weekend and repeating next week. Not sure how I'll use my time the weekend before the test. Someone here said that they don't advise doing a PT too close to the test because a possible low score might destroy your confidence for the test, which makes sense to me.
I've read that also and agree. I plan on maybe doing some light drilling the weekend before but no timed PT. I'll likely make Friday the 5th my last PT (ever, hopefully.)

Currently on break from PT 66 (5 sections) so far so good!

RC seemed not too bad, although I shouldn't speak til I score.

whacka wrote:Does LR on the newer PTs seem inordinately hard for anyone else? I used to go -0-2 on LR and in the PT I just took (67) I went -4 on both, which hasn't happened to me literally in months. Not a good feeling.
Same happened to me recently. But I have also not been drilling LR as much as I was so I'm now spending the rest of the day drilling level 4 questions from the Cambridge packets. Strangely almost all of my misses have come from the 14-19 question range and it's usually one or two in a row so maybe I temporarily lose focus? Idk

And to those who asked about what I've been doing with RC, I'll update you tomorrow after I do some more timed sections so I'll see if I actually improved.

Grouping games are seriously the bane of my existence right now. I have gone back through and can drill all day, when I see a new one - I get so anxious and brain goes "shit shit shit"

Once I get to the answers I work it out but, making the inferences is where I struggle on these undefined games.

I'm starting to get really nervous, only 2 weeks out.

I'd recommend doing the sections of the other ones whenever you can in a meaningful way. I'm using the low 60s as drills or warmup sections.

176 on 69 yesterday(1rc,3/1lr), moving onto 70-74.

Yeah, Febers were actively venting about their freakouts leading up to doomsday. I personally am trying to minimize how often I'm on here. I dig ya'll and errthang but constantly comparing where I'm scoring right now to others (them mid-high 170s folk) won't do me any good.
