Malawach=devil food. It's literally just fried puff pastry and it's so unbelievbly delicious and bad for you. I think I have some in my freezer, actually...schmelling wrote:Ohhhh my god jachnun is the best! Ever had malawach rigo? Its the same dough but formed flat and pan fried so it is crispy. Served with the same stuff. Both are soooo good.

That's awesome! We're going to the Caribbean/Disneyworld for two and a half weeks for our honeymoon. Mainly cause the proposal was at Disneyworld and we're both kids at heart. Don't judge too hard we're young lol) but I'll have to look up that cave hotel. It sounds really interesting. I love outdoors and stuff but fiancée is not too big on it.CambrianExplosives wrote:We were there for almost three weeks. Most of it was in Istanbul, but we spent about 5 days in Cappadocia in a cave hotel. My wife and I loved it there so much and really want to go back. We decided not to do a more robust itinerary because it was our first vacation in 2 years and wanted to relax, but now there's so much more in that country we want to go back and see.RaiderRed wrote:That sounds like an awesome honeymoon! Well Kebabs are definitely a thing in Turkey, but they are really good. Also Kebabs are not always meet on a stick. For example, Testi Kebab (Pronounced Tasty and having no relation to what it may look like) is more or less a delicious stew cooked in a clay pot.leslieknope wrote:Tell me more about this Turkish food you're craving. I think I have a bad impression of Turkish food because in Europe Turkish kebabs is what you eat when it's 3:30 AM and you're coming home from the bar hungry as hell and it's the only place open, and it's overwhelmingly pretty gross. I need to fix this!CambrianExplosives wrote:That reminds me. I need to make something Turkish. It's the perfect blend of Mediterranean and Middle-Eastern. Beyond kebabs though there are some really nice meals. Manti, for example, are known as Turkish Ravioli. Basically they are small ravioli like dumplings in a yogurt sauce with a bit of a red sauce drizzled on top. They are a bit sour, but it depends on what spices you add. Spices are really important in Turkish cooking, which isn't surprising since its big in both Greek and Middle-Eastern.
Finally, I got some of the cheapest, freshest fish I've ever tasted. We took a day trip to a very touristic area, sat right on the water looking at the most beautiful sight and ate the most expensive fish there. It was around $18 per entree. Most were more like $8-10.

The cave hotels are really nice. They aren't "Outdoorsy" at all. Here is the one we stayed in, http://www.thecavehotel.com/seyirlik-no-6-deluxe-suite/.RaiderRed wrote:CambrianExplosives wrote: That's awesome! Also my parents did a Disney Cruise for their honeymoon so no judgments here.

These are highly popular in Germany. I had them in Munich and Berlin. Doner is simply amazing.peppermint wrote:Doner kebab! I've forgotten about that. I guess I have had some Turkish food after all but it sounds like it's just fast food Turkish rather than legit traditional Turkishleslieknope wrote:Tell me more about this Turkish food you're craving. That's so sick! And it's gorgeous. I need to visit further east than Germany. I loved it, but I wanna experience more culture.Cambrian wrote:The cave hotels are really nice. They aren't "Outdoorsy" at all. Here is the one we stayed in, http://www.thecavehotel.com/seyirlik-no-6-deluxe-suite/.

I can't imagine being in an airplane the length of time it takes to get to another continent. Although flying might be more enjoyable when the destination isn't Detroit.

&& thanks for the compliments, guys. Full disclosure: that was taken two years and I am way more pale and generally less attractive now, so don't feel intimidated. No more fake and bake (although I probably should get back on that so I don't turn into a lobster first day in Hawaii.)

Interesting! I've never had malawach before. I had to look it up because I thought you were talking about malawah -- also Yemeni, but just bread. Not fried puff pastry stuff. Think Indian naan bread, but much better.schmelling wrote:Ohhhh my god jachnun is the best! Ever had malawach rigo? Its the same dough but formed flat and pan fried so it is crispy. Re: FEBRUARY 2015 WAITERS' CIRCUS
It's truly hell. It's 10-12+ hours in a small cramped area. It's super hard to sleep and the air feels weird. At least you get to watch a lot of movies and get food. It's not good food, but its more than you get on domestic flights. Except for Turkish Airlines. They spoiled us with food. They had an in-flight chef that made a full meal on a flight that lasted ~2 hours. The Abyss wrote:I can't imagine being in an airplane the length of time it takes to get to another continent. Yeaah, well ... maybe I haven't tried enough homemade naan.peppermint wrote:My people's food!
