How do you stay focused on the questions at hand?

I am starting to realize that when I am in the middle of doing problems, most recently RC, my mind drifts off. I think they may be one of the reasons I keep missing a lot of questions. My mind just wanders.

Any advice?

I haven't tried it personally but I've heard regular meditation ("practicing focus") can help.

When you guys drill do you work on one LG or RC packet all day or switch around? Spent all day trying to get through the undetermined assignment game pack with a mixture of flaw and necessary assumption packets in there as we'll. with such little time left I'm just now about to start my 2nd run through of each game packet.

The spring semester starts tomorrow and my entire focus is on the LSAT. Those of you that are still in school, how are you planning to adjust with the spring semester coming up? I'm taking six0 classes , but two of them are online and don't start till February 10th (Lucky me!)

I think the delay in classes will likely pay off, good luck on the exam.

It sounds like you aren't reading actively.

Also, this used to happen to me with LR. I think there are two parts to combatting this: practice, practice, practice this section type and make sure you understand how to approach this section/ questions.

+1 on reading actively.

Immerse yourself in the material and read it as if your life depended on it.

No LR warm-up questions for me; I only warm up with logic games. My reasoning for this is that LG don't seem to tire me at all, and they are the one thing that I actively get worse at the fewer I do and the longer between doing them.

This probably should depend upon each person's individual tendancies :)

___

PT 63 just now; pretty happy.

LR1: -0
LG: -0
LR2: -1
RC: -3

-4/177

I made some very foolish mistakes on RC. One of them I got wrong because it was just damned hard, but the other two I really had no excuse for missing; I just didn't read the answer choices closely enough (overconfidence is my great RC killer).

Still, 177 is my test day goal, and that's two tests in a row. Happy Zac.

This is totally it. You've got to mind-hack yourself; before you read each and every RC passage, tell yourself something along the lines of, "time to learn something really cool and interesting!" Even if you don't necessarily feel that way, if you can convince yourself to have a personal interest in the passage -- beyond simply answering questions -- you are much more likely to succeed.

I tell myself two things before every RC section:

1. Time to learn something friggin neat!
2. You are not allowed to reread ANYTHING!

Obviously point 2 is bullshit, but for me, it helps me with focus (and subsequently with time, which for me is RC cryptonite).

Just took PT 61 and got a 161. Pretty happy considering I've taken 2 exams so far and this go around and this is my first score in the 160s. Happy about the improvement in LG -6 but still need to get that to nearly perfect for test day. 3 points away from my goal score :D

Any other 3x takers out there get nervous about remembering so many questions from the last time you studied? I may not remember the answer but I find myself paying more attention to the question and my reasoning behind eliminating an answer.

Anyone else experiencing (or experienced?) fluctuation from LR section to LR section? So I'll go -0 on one and then -7 the next day on another. If it's a mindset thing, I can't seem to pin it down.

Took PT 46 last night...

-0 LG
-8 LR1
-8 LR2
-17 RC !!!!!!

I honestly don't know what happened lol. I usually score 160-165. I just think I was spaced out and didn't pay attention.

Good news is that I get to take another tonight and redeem my self.

Yes, I also have no consistency and cannot pin point the issue yet. On October LSAT I had -5 RC and then last night I get -17.

LR I fluctuate between -3 to -12 and there is no rhyme or reason why that I can make sense of.

Logic games I miss bubbled on October LSAT or I wouldn't even be re-taking test but I am very consistent with them at -0 to -3.

Personally, I have about 300 more important things in my life to worry about than the LSAT so I have trouble with my mind drifting while taking LR or RC but not during LG since they just make sense to me. This may be the only thing that I can attribute the spread of scores to.

I would say that the only way to become consistent is, as suggested above, to act as paying attention to the questions or passages has your life depending on it. Essentially, figure out a way to actively read. Which is maybe why I do so well on LG since the games interest me and I find to be fun.

Just do sections that's the only way. I have gone -8 on LR and then -0 on LR in the SAME TEST. Weird stuff, but I'm assuming that if you are going -0 sometimes the -7s are from dumb mistakes which is a good thing.
