Re: The Official December 2014 Study Group
Thank you Mist! I want something that will make me competitive for YHS (shooting for 180 but happy with 170+) and I know my BR score should definitely be above that soon because if I can't score at/above my goal untimed with BR then no chance doing so timed.mist4bison wrote: I think your best bet, rather than going back, is to do the drills. Drills are invaluable when you're first learning the actual question type. My philosophy is: learn it, apply it, apply it more, apply it even more, apply it quickly. I know some people disagree on accuracy before timing, but I think given your BR score, that's going to be your best bet. You need to really get the concepts down before you can do them quickly.
1) I wouldn't time individual LR questions. It's time consuming and questions differ. Some questions should take 30 seconds and some take 2 minutes. Don't dillydally when you drill, still employ some urgency, but I wouldn't suggest timing individual questions.
2) LR sections, yes, you should time. A lot of people say--and I agree--that the first 15 in 15 mins is a good place to be. It gives you 15 to do the next 10 or so and a couple minutes to check questions.
3) At this point in the game, I think that PTing is just as important as the sections. Unless you plan to postpone until Feb, I would make sure you're doing PTs. If you're unemployed/in school, try for 3 a week. This will help you with timing, also.
ETA: With respect to 3): Doing PTs isn't only about the score, but about getting used to the test conditions. If T-Day is your 3rd of 4th test, you're not going to be as familiar with the test, it's gonna suck sitting there for 4 hours, and you'll likely be more stressed. Drill so that BR can get over 170. If it isn't, it shows you need to work on concepts. PT so that you get used to the test/timing. Basically: Drill and PT. Not one or the other.
ETA2: I think you've posted this before, but what are your expectations for Dec, score wise?
I thought about waiting and taking in Feb but this is my first test and pretty sure Y is the only one that accepts just the Feb score (if you haven't previously taken it) so if I went that route it literally would be a "Yale Mary" (one app submitted)...so yeah I'm not going that route lol.
Edit: just to say I'm studying full-time and pretty much said "f" my social life until Dec 7.

I took Preptest 59 on 11/06/2014
I scored 164
LG: -1
LR: -13
RC: -7
What do you think I should do to improve my LR by DEC? This is the lowest score Ive gotten in a few months. I am confident on my LG skills. What do you think I should do? What are your thoughts about LSAT 59?

Re: The Official December 2014 Study Group
Took PT 59 today!
LG: -4
LR: -4
LR: -4
RC: -3
Scaled: 169 (again...)
BR:
LG: -0
LR: -3
LR: -4
RC: -3
Scaled: 173
I should probably start doing some more LG timed sections because I was really pressed for time and clearly could've gotten a perfect score on that. LR has improved since I took my last PT last Tuesday. My BR for LR definitely could've been more thorough (literally made the dumbest mistakes ever - lots of careless ones that I should've caught...) but I was in such a rush to go out for a run before it got dark. Probably should've waited until after my run, but I guess I was impatient haha.
