I have (had, hopefully) the same symptoms as the OP! Thanks for giving me the right perspective! It does not help that my boss is dangling a potential partnership in front of me.BP Ben wrote:I totally agree.Shakawkaw wrote:Work through the burnout and fatigue, then take a rest day or two. If you're stopping every time you hit that mental wall of burnout, your body won't be trained properly for any potential burn out you might experience on test day! I don't know the extent of your situation rn, but if you feel like you're getting splitting headaches from studying, vs. just feeling lazy and resigned to the LOLSAT, then definitely take a break. The burn out is a spectrum - if you're on the far right, take a break and stop. If you're just entering the on ramp of burn out, stick it through.lollsat wrote:Anyone here have burnout before? Ugh it's weird it's like I can't look at a single LR question anymore without losing motivation/focus and reviewing has become extremely boring and tiring, I keep wanting to just go to sleep. Contrast this with just 2 weeks ago where I was so happy, doing quality studying 5+ hours a day without any problem whatsoever. I took a week off but it still feels so tiresome and frustrating, I'm down to only being able to review 1 LR section a day.Anyone experienced this, is it burnout? Maybe I should go take a vacation from LSAT for a longer time period.
I think you need to try and separate emotional burn out from physical burn out. We all (hopefully) know what it feels like to have an LSAT headache, right? It's that sort of throbbing soreness, and you don't feel sharp. It gets worse when you try to focus hard on anything--especially LSAT related. A very familiar condition for anyone who's been studying for a while, I'm sure. But then there's the "Ughhhh this is TSO boring I hate it and I don't want to do it anymore" kind of burn out. That's the kind of burn out that you need to suck it up and push through.
So, if you have the classic LSAT headache, and you're really having trouble focusing because it feels like your brain muscles are sore, then take more time off. During that time, focus on sleeping a lot, relaxing, exercising, and recalibrating your mindset so that you can hit the ground running when your rest period is over. If you're experiencing the emotional kind of burn out, you don't necessarily need to take time off, but you definitely need to take a moment to remind yourself why you're doing this. Studying for the LSAT is meaningful work, in the sense that your effort has a guaranteed, direct, and significant return (chasing dreams/chasing dolla billz). So take out your journal or whatever, and write down all of the reasons why the suck is totally 100% worth it.
