Georgetown and zac - something that has helped me with RC is doing the passages in reverse order. the most challenging is always 3rd or 4th, and if I can get that one down without any time crunch I feel a lot better. Typically I've been going -3 on RC but I think by test day/minus the stupid mistakes I make I'll be down to -1. just an idea for trying something new to see if there's any improvement for you.

I just bought Mahayana LR book...going to read it this week as I drill. it looks just like the ACT prep book I used so im having some weird flashbacks but I'll manage.

Oh my god, yes. Where has this been all my life? Thank you Zac!

Jumping on this idea, I do the passages in the order of most questions to least. Normally this is reverse-ish order but in December passages 1 and 2 were both 8 questions a piece iirc.
I feel like it's much easier to do a passage with only 5 questions at the end if you're in a time crunch. Plus, less of a detriment if you don't finish it.
+1. I'm no RC master, but I think that's a good approach. Easier passages tend, but not always, to be first but I usually go with those that have the most questions to avoid a major loss if I'm low on time.

Checking in. I took December's test and scored rreeaallyy low for me (160.. I was hitting no lower than 167 to 170 the weeks leading up to the test). I wasn't going to retake and just see how my cycle went, and then retake in June if I needed to. Not retaking was eating me up on the inside, so I decided to take a PT and just see how I did. I scored a 171 and decided I'd be wasting all of my previous studying and effort if I didn't retake. Sooo here I am! Not stressing myself out this time like I did last time. I'm going to practice reading comp every day and PT a couple more times before the test, but other than I'm not going overboard.

-3 in LG today, and one of them was a rule substitution question (how do you develop a consistent approach to these???? I will never know), but the other two were on a game I thought was pretty easy while I was doing it. It's always the ones I'm not actively afraid of that get me.

its a relatively new type of question. Skip it and come back to it at the end. Seriously. Its just not worth the time. To answer your question, no one has a consistent approach. It literally is a grind through each AC question.

One time I did a PT and got a 178. Another time I got around 163. These were within 2 weeks of each other. Ultimately some of the test comes down to luck, and it sounds like your 160 was bad luck if you were consistently scoring 167-170 before the test. For me it was extremely important to do these tests under exact test conditions though. No munching on snacks, no one last sneaky answer change after the timer rings, no sitting on a comfy couch cushion. It wasn't fun but it helped me to somewhat accurately predict my overall performance on the test.

Good luck, it sounds like you'll do great this time.

I tried this but it screwed me up a bit. I'd do the long passages first, look at my clock, and freak out that I only had 14 minutes to do the last 2 passages. Which of course, would be enough time, but because I wasn't used to spending that much time early on to do the first 2 passages, I'd spend a full 45 seconds panicking and then would unnecessarily rush through the last 2.

It's interesting how differently people approach this section. The methods in RC seem to have the most variation of all.
