It is, but I'm starting to think I'll be okay even if I fail according to conventional standards. Overeducated young people making $25k and IBRing their loans is becoming a new normal, and as long as you can accept that some things just aren't available to you and let them go, you can probably have a reasonably happy life. And based on what I've read on TLS, the Cooley grad waiting tables might have a happier and more fulfilling life than the biglawyer making six figures anyway.biggestlawman wrote:Depressing!Shakawkaw wrote:Or we can all go work for BP after we graduate with mountains of loans.

Did he not last in biglaw? I'm confused and don't care enough to read. I feel like he's def at Manhattan by choice. No way a CLS grad would be totally shut out of the legal market.

Sometimes a phucking MBA seems very appealing.RZ5646 wrote:It is, but I'm starting to think I'll be okay even if I fail according to conventional standards. It reads like a What Not To Do." Family ties to SV, goes to Columbia at what sounds like sticker, talking about how he'll make partner one day, clerkship in a state court after being no-offered.Rigo wrote:Did he not last in biglaw? He got no-offered after his SA during the financial crisis, which I guess ruins one's biglaw prospects.Rigo wrote:Did he not last in biglaw? I'm confused and don't care enough to read. I feel like he's def at Manhattan by choice. No way a CLS grad would be totally shut out of the legal market.
You're probably right that he's doing it by choice though. He could be a lawyer someplace, but he's probably holding out for some fancy position in NYC. Or he just enjoys teaching. Most of these big name LSAT tutors say they like tutoring more than lawyering.

Oh the recession. That explains things. Not exactly a contemporary story though.

The other stories are even better. Mid-40s bartender goes to South Texas wanting high level M&A, and an Ohio State grad moves to Virginia and has to wait tables at Cracker Barrel.Rigo wrote:Oh the recession. That explains things. Not exactly a contemporary story though.

Having a day job and making 100 an hour in the evenings isn't bad! Just that there is no glory. We'll see what those hotshot MBAs do with our economy in the next 5 years. BLM, you should pursue an MBA; we need an inside man.biggestlawman wrote:The article in question is about the recession hit class of 2010. But, the world is not recession safe for the next 5 years!

This is exactly the issue. Most Americans, this guy included, make more than enough money to be happy. They just get caught up in comparing themselves to others and chasing whatever society tells them is valuable instead of living their own lives.biggestlawman wrote:Having a day job and making 100 an hour in the evenings isn't bad! Have you lived on your own with a full-time job and fully responsible for yourself?

I'm on the find dat sugar daddy team! Which law school would give me the best odds of that? Ideally the school would have a low female:male ratio with a high placement in big law because big law=money and lots of work so they won't have time to spend it which means I'll spend it for them!
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
