Also, in all the chaos of last minute Christmas shopping—last minute as in Christmas Eve like always—I somehow lost my debit card and managed not to notice until a few mins ago when I went to go pickup that pizza.

No fraudulent charges but hoping I can find it at one of the stores/the bank vs canceling and waiting 7-10 business days or whatever that bullshit is to get a new card in the mail.

That's a bummer, JW. I think you can just go to the bank and ask for a new one and they'll print it out right away. Not 100% positive, but if they're able to print one out when you open an account, presumably the technology exists!

I have TD too - the reason why they don't do the raised #'s on the card is because it allows them to print it out on the spot. I also think it might have something to do with circumventing credit card theft (in being able to steal the #'s if they were raised), but not sure.

Roll up to a TD bank in Detroit, they'll print out a new card. They pride themselves on being America's most convenient bank.

Hah I've got a love/hate relationship with mah city.

I know we've talked about it before that I've moved around to different cities etc. but I've lived here much of my life. It's kinda crazy how immune you can get to that stuff, like sometimes I don't even notice, it just blends in, etc until I'm with a friend from the 'burbs or someone who didn't grow up here and they're like "OMG wtf dude why you bring me to Chernobyl?" or until I'm really trying to focus my attention in on and it and then inevitably I end up comparing it to places that I've been in developing countries.

In all honesty, it didn't get this way overnight so can't really expect it to change overnight either, but there are definitely a lot of bright spots popping up...and haute cuisine/hipsters everywhere, think like Williamsburg before it was really-really hipster. Gentrification is certainly an issue but look at DC or Philly, etc.

Idk, come for the ruin porn if you must but I'll do my best to make you fall in love with it Even if like I said, sometimes I hate it myself. I really do think it has the potential to be something really special in like another 5-10 years, there's already so much $ being poured into development, property values shooting up like crazy, etc. just need more people willing to live downtown proper vs in the suburbs and shop at/eat at/support the businesses that are down here on a regular basis (like any other normal metropolitan city) and not just when they're in town for the day to see a football/baseball/hockey game.

My wife was in shock the first time I took her around Detroit. A lot of, "why is there only one house on this block?" and "why are there so many abandoned buildings?" and "OMG was that a coyote?". I still love the damn place, though.
