What exactly, other than noting the MP of each paragraph, is the Trainer method? Maybe I didn't get the right info out of it.

usaorbust wrote:How do you effectively drill for LR? I have the Cambridge by type packets, Manhattan LR, and the LSAT Trainer. Ive gone through parts of the trainer, but for struggling for LR I was thinking about reading a chapter in the Manhattan book and then follow it up with some drilling by that type. If I do that, how many questions do I do? How do I mix up questions best to get a good feel of question difficulty etc? How often should I refresh some of the LR types so I don't forget how to do each game effectively? And lastly how should my drilling strategy change if I am not going to the Sept. test and choose to do the Dec or Feb Test instead?

I am not seeing a consistent error/ pattern in my mistakes for LR questions, as in I miss one o maybe two or a few different type of questions when I take a PT, I do not miss only one type, if that makes sense. Its a bit frustrating as it seems like some of the studying isent sticking that well with me. Like I can explain how that strategy should work for a question, but once I get under the timed constraints of the PT I forget what strategies I should use for the practice set.
I did something pretty similar to what you're doing. I read all LR in the Trainer, then moved to Manhattan LR and drilled after each Manhattan chapter. I didn't do all drill qs though. I divided each packet into 4-8 groups (i.e. I made my packets into sub-packets) and used some to drill after each chapter, some to drill later on while still doing the Manhattan book, and still have some "sub-packets" left over to drill by type if I need to, once I find my strengths and weaknesses.

Finally done doing my accuracy drilling of LG, where I did every game repeatedly until I completed it under time, -0. Now I'm moving on to stage 2, where I create randomly bundled sets of 5 LG's, and then complete them under 35 minutes, -0. If I finish this phase alright, I'll be able to move onto the final stage of prep, which is just taking lots of PT's and drilling any problem areas that arise.

its pretty much "pay attention to these things and don't worry about small details." there's no notation method he suggests using. and also know why paragraphs and sentences are there.

For those of you who have worked through the trainer. About how long did it take? I'm going through the games lessons now but I'm itching to start drilling games.

Cool, good to know proteinshake. I'm not sure if you have mentioned exactly what you did as far as materials (I know I read you've used Trainer/MLSAT)

I am curious to here about your study plan. That 172 is making me jealous  Is the Trainer/MLSAT all you used?

Also, how much of the trainer did you do per day? Did you follow a set study guide plan from the website? Or kind of do your own thing?

Thanks for all your help in this thread BTW.

I'm only using the Trainer + Manhattan LG/LR.

When I went through the Trainer, I was taking a class, so I just did however much I could each day without feeling burnt - usually this was one or two chapters a day split up by a few hours. I didn't do much drilling except after the chapter on Flaws and the first set of RC lessons - didn't have much time because of the class.

I just started Manhattan LG and it should take me ~2 weeks to get through it. I will be drilling from the Cambridge packet after every chapter. Same for Manhattan LR.

then I'll be doing 2-3 PTs a week!

this is also a retake for me so I didn't start from a blank slate! I also read a lot of philosophy in my free time, which, I think, helps a ton.

no problem! I think the only change you should definitely make is to actually drill as you go through the Trainer - but not necessarily after every chapter.

I have been reading the chapters and then drilling out of the cambridge packets. For example, today I am read through the flaws chapter and began drilling flaw questions from the packet. However, do you have any idea how much I should drill? There's over 200 questions and I don't know how many are enough...

I would do two sets of 25, both untimed (you could do 3 or 4, just don't do them all, especially the hard ones near the end of the packet). at this point you want to make sure you are good at knowing the flaws and are able to catch them rather than testing to see if you can do it in a certain time. save the rest for after the Flaw chapter in Manhattam LR.

Thanks so much. That sounds like a good plan. I was so confused as to how many to drill, when to, etc. This clears it up perfectly.

Taking my first PT in months today!

Finally got LG to -1/-2 per section, so I'm hoping to land between 172 and 174. Here's hoping!

That's ballin! How did you study LR? I read all LR in the Trainer and Manhattan and Cambridge drilled after each Manhattan chapter. I'm working on individual LG now, and then I'm gonna start drilling full LR sections in July.

If I'm being honest, LR came really easily to me. I've done debate for 6+ years, so most of the questions are things I looked for naturally. But one thing that helped is to ALWAYS bracket the conclusion of the argument before you even get to the questions-- it'll help you to think of how they arrived at the conclusion, which is normally what the question is getting at.

Morning fellow studying fools,

What are some YouTube videos you watch to get into the study mindset, get in the zone, or just great videos to develop basic LSAT skills. There's only so much I can read and drill each day, lets share some other vids that'll help us all out in more ways than one!

Just did mastery challenge in LSAT trainer...

Did three of four games with 100% accuracy within 10-11 minutes a game. Longer then I'd want to spend, but they are supposedly hard games.

The 2nd game [crazy number of conditional rules for an in-out] just through my head for a tizzy so I sort of just decided I'll review and come back later. I rather count it as 0/7, re-read conditional and in-out sections, and come back and do it again without knowing the answers.

So, I seriously overestimated how much my LG had improved. Have yet to score my PT, but on the LG I miswrote a vital rule that screwed up my entire game. I think that I got too nervous in the 4th game about time, so I got sloppy.

Glad I'm taking the test in September and not June.

Wow. I just got my worst LSAT PT score in over 6 months. 167, with -5 LG, -4 RC, and -7 LR (usually my absolute best subject).

Sorry to hear, but that's a good problem to have man... I wouldn't sweat it too much. I'm starting to get really comfortable with games [much higher accuracy but slower].

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
