Currently, I can't get a section finished in under 35 mins, and I'm just getting stuck on irrelevant facts that bog my timing down. Those who, at one point, had timing issues and are now finishing in under the allotted time, how were you able to get timing down, when did you start seeing improvement?

Thanks
Not always doing it consistently, but, when I do the following, I usually finish with 3-4 minutes to go back and a minute or two where I'm just letting myself recoop.

If you read through a question and its A/Cs more than twice, make your best guess in a tick mark and come back if you have time. If you spend four minutes and get the question right, you probably would have been better off spending two minutes and guessing 50/50 (assuming you can eliminate two-three wrong answers fairly easy and consistently even on hard questions). Basically, you are better off having a 50/50 shot at a question in two minutes than a 100/0 shot on a question over four minutes (that is unless it is some question you came back to).

In addition, questions sometimes will click when you come back to it with fresh eyes. Think of all the questions that you know the answer before you even get to the choices. When you read something, you tend to get fixated.

Yeah, I totally understand. Another thing I find is the mental fatigue that I experience after finishing a section. I imagine that will get better with time but just a bit frustrating when you've been drilling and you don't fly through the questions as you would like...

I sometimes will have like 1 question left over when 35 mins is hit, but my timing has gotten better and I am now able to finish the section in 35 mins. What I did was just do timed sections but with a stopwatch and don't stop at 35 mins, just let it go and see how long it takes you. When I was doing this my timing went from 40 mins to 37 mins to 35 mins and the fastest i've finished a section was 27 or 28 mins (forgot). Try doing this, and your pace for each question should get better with the timing pressure but without stopping at 35 mins

So I kind of disappeared from this board the last few weeks because it was making me paranoid, lulz.

However, update on how I'm doing if anyone's curious.

I totally fell behind on the 7sage curriculum. I've still got about 20 hours left. Once I figured out that I wasn't going to finish on the timeline I wanted, I decided to start taking PTs anyway. I've taken PTs 36, 37, 38, and 62 over the last 2 weeks and scored 153 (I was jetlagged) and then 161, 163, and 164 respectively. I still need to BR tests 38 and 62. I think my plan now is to just finish up the games stuff of 7sage (still only did a little bit of the grouping games junk) and take 2-3 more PTs. Then I'm going to use the analytics from 7sage to focus in on the question types I need to study and from there pretty much alternate days of testing and drilling.

Fun stuff: waited until the last day to register and Ann Arbor was completely booked up. Ended up registering at Oakland University, I got a roommate who lives right by there so his parents are letting me crash there the night before. Hopefully will be able to get back to the Big House for the Penn State game, but we'll see.

How many timed sections did you do before you started seeing improvement, and how long did it take?

Took maybe a few weeks, I don't remember. I did this with like 10 or so sections. Now I just do 35 mins

Also, I'm gonna start working on my PS over the weekend. Looking forward to just getting a first draft done so I have something to work with.

Is it made of relatively high quality? It looks real nice in the pics. And did you get white or black dial?

Taking it easy tonight. Did four 'killer' games and read through another fourth of the Blueprint book. I feel like it has been mildly helpful just to sort of boost confidence in having some verification of my general approach.

Tomorrow:
-class
-socializing for a bit with friends, depending the timing I'll probably do the LR homework for that class before or after
-go through the question type section of Blueprint RC
-I think I'm also going to add some more questions to my 'missed/hard LR questions packet'...

maybe see Sausage Party one of the next two days...

PS - New tribe called quest album supposedly?!

Since the resetting is not instant, would one be SOL if the full 35 minutes are up?
Or would the proctor(s) allow a few seconds to flip over to the next section?

Still doing crap at LR. So much of this is due to lazy reading / lack of attention to detail. I hope I'm just tired or something, christ...

I'm going to drill the hardest reasoning structure and principle questions over the weekend - hopefully get better at noticing subtleties - and keep at it with timed sections and stuff. 5am tomorrow if all goes as planned, so I can get a couple hours of work in before the thing at 9am. I'm not sure when the next time I'll have the chance to do a PT will be, given the 9-5 thing saturday and sunday then time-sensitive work stuff next week. We'll see.

no, you'll have about 10-20 seconds between the sections. my proctor even said "begin" and didn't start the clock until about 2 seconds after so you get a liiiiitle extra time in some cases.

i always forget to reset the watch at the end of the section under real administration. as a result, my timing on section 2, 4, and 5 are usually screwed.

it'd be useful if proctors reminded people in their instructions at the begin of the section to reset their watches.

Congrats!

Did you feel like you went perfect? RC is tough for me to gauge due to the not-as-concrete nature of the answers.

Started PT 72 today and just hit the burnout wall hard.

A lot of unfocused reading and a lot of rereading.

I stopped half way through section 2 so as to not waste a PT.

I figure I'll spend my day working on admissions essays and then give it another crack tomorrow.

It's good that you stopped and didn't keep going and wasted a PT. that's what I usually do if I'm not feeling up to it with a section or pt.

Have you gotten any ideas for your personal statement yet?
