the only thing I don't like is that you can't play other things while you use it. is it available on android? how does it ensure that you don't wake in the middle of rem cycle? it seems there are a couple. one is sleep cycle by nova labs, other is sleep cycle alarm clock.jagerbom79 wrote:I wasn't the one who mentioned it, but I swore by this all Spring Semester. I use the app Sleep Cycle. The website for it is https://s.sleepcycle.com/site/login. @protein - with this app they have a bunch of sleep aids etc if youre interested in that. I pretty sure all the different watches like fitbit and applewatch connect to this app too. Not 100% sure though as I don't have one of those watches.appind wrote:is it available on android? how does it ensure that you don't wake in the middle of rem cycle? it seems there are a couple. one is sleep cycle by nova labs, other is sleep cycle alarm clock.jagerbom79 wrote:I wasn't the one who mentioned it, but I swore by this all Spring Semester. Im not sure if its on Android (I have an iPhone), but I'd imagine it is. You are supposed to plug in your phone on your night stand and through the microphone it checks your sleep patterns. Apparently, there is a connection between the level depth of sleep you are in and movement. You set the alarm to the latest hour:min you want to wake up and it will wake up you at the time or within the 30 min prior to that time when you are at a point of coming out of that cycle.
I am not sure how accurate it is, but seems to work pretty well-unless its just psychological. I've been thinking about the different watches that sense the vibrations in your body and slowly wake you up, but haven't done too much research yet.
In addition to the app, there is this website : sleepyti.me - and you go to the website and it resets everytime you open the site. It illustrates what time you should wake up if you go to sleep now based on Cycles 1-6. This was effective if you wanted a quick nap or wanted an idea on a decently accurate time on average of when you will come out of a cycle.

just did an RC section in literally the worst environment possible, and yet, very happy with the results! had a baby crying for the entirety of the second passage and a grandma and library worker talking to each other about 10 feet away from me for the entirety of the second half of the section (and I was in the quiet zone
). but anyway:
PT 47 RC, 5/5 difficulty, fresh:
-4
this section was kinda weird. THREE of the passages were each 5/5 difficulty and the third one was 1/5. I've never seen that lol. also, drinking a 16 oz iced coffee had my arm shaking for the whole section, should probably not do that again hehe.

Going -2 on an LR section you've done before. -_- I want to think that some of these moderately-old (??middle-aged??) LRs are more difficult or something - ie 20s, 30s, 40s.
I have to admit 30.2.22 is a pretty good NA question. Fell for the trap completely. You win this one, LSAC.

Re: The Official September 2016 Study Group - WAKE ME UP WHEN SEPTEMBER ENDS
Just got a 172 on PT34. First time I got a score over 170. I didn't get to five questions in time (two on an LR and three on AR), but I did those questions before checking the answers and got them all right so I could have gotten a 177. Feels good man. I went into the last AR problem with ample time (like 9 minutes) but got bogged down by mapping out the conditional statements.

Is that the rattlesnake one? That was one of the class examples today, haha. I had [A] even though I *really* didn't like the answer realizing it was a sufficient rather than necessary, and, after reading through the rest, quickly changed to [E]. I think my biggest weakness at times is thinking, 'Eh, close enough rather than fighting for it.' Hopefully, that's a homework symptom.Alexandros wrote:Going -2 on an LR section you've done before. -_- I want to think that some of these moderately-old (??middle-aged??) Just took PT64.
Score: 164
LR: -2
AR: -7
LR - 7
RC: -5
165 is my "high water mark." I've been getting just below it pretty consistently. It's weird, because LR is normally my best section, so I have no idea what happened that second LR section.
Also, I'm slowly but surely starting to improve consistently in AR, so I guess that's something.

Thank you so much for your positive response! I also haven't hit the flaw lessons yet, so maybe that's partially responsible. I know the ad hominem, circular reasoning, interpreting a key word twice, and causal reasoning errors, but maybe there is more I should learn.34iplaw wrote:
I did pretty well on these. If you're out of it, don't waste the questions. Go to sleep.
Really focus on the reasoning.
Really focus on right/wrong answers...answer choices all indicate some method of reasoning or argumentation...a wrong answer for one question will be a right answer for another. Early on, try to understand what different choices are saying and what they mean.
especially if it is a flawed method of reasoning question, they re-use a few answers *a lot*... for flawed versions like almost every question has something that will reference equivocation and circular reasoning in some way. If it is ad hominem, ad populism, ad something, it will be smashed over your head. It will not likely be a subtle clue for one of these.
I did the set of remaining 18 questions and went 17/18 -1 which isn't great but is MUCH better than 42/50 -8, so I'm attributing it to exhaustion.
Question: do you think I should redo the 8 questions I got wrong yesterday or just intensely review them?
I'm also thinking about doing that sleep app that you all are talking about, if it gets results, why not?
Also, think I'll go back to working out starting tomorrow (read that article that Instrumental posted) thanks for that!

PT 69: 172 (91 raw)
LR: -0
LG: -3 - Had to leave one question blank during game 3 because i didnt want to waste time and miss out on game 4 which was a good move IMO
RC: -3
LR: -3 - Felt off during this entire section, IDK about anyone else but only have "A" answered twice starts to really bother me haha
Seems like low 170s is becoming consistent for me. Gotta shave LG down to -0/-1 to really lock in my scores though. Overall pretty happy with where I am this far from the test date.

Re: The Official September 2016 Study Group - WAKE ME UP WHEN SEPTEMBER ENDS
I'm far from the highest scorer here, so my advice may not be best. That said, I think you would probably be better off just reasoning through why each answer choice is wrong and each answer choice right. You miss relatively few (like myself) which means you likely remember when you missed a question in most circumstances. I think that makes it less beneficial to simply redo them.ngogirl12 wrote:Thank you so much for your positive response! I also haven't hit the flaw lessons yet, so maybe that's partially responsible. There are a few others that you should learn. Also, recognize that a flaw has to be wrong to be a flaw. There is a *really* easy part to whole question that I got wrong just because one answer was clearly a part to whole idea but it was correct... so it wasn't a flaw. Really irritating.
With methods of reasoning, I don't know why I'm having trouble recollecting them. I guess it's just that they are a lot less common than flawed methods. I feel like flawed ones will help you. I'll have to review methods of reasoning I guess

positive structure (A->B, have A, so B)
contrapositive structure (A->B, don't have A, so don't have B)
either or inclusive of all situations (A or B or C which are *all* possible outcomes, not A not B, so C)
and some others are just more flat out descriptive/correct methods of argument that are often used in a flaw way...
citing statistical evidence, a valid expert, drawing a conclusion from a representative sample, etc.

I did it in a timed section, didn't really pay attention to the kind of assumption (bad bad bad), saw the thing about years and thought it looked right, saw E mentioned food and thought out of scope, and just moved on. Haha definitely need to be more careful.
another LR -> some more games -> buy a new thing of protein powder -> spend the rest of the evening on games -> try to finish watching Netflix by 10 and get to bed early.

See a lot of people who took PT 64 recently so figured I'd post my score. The curve was really generous though, so I'm not sure if my score is a good indicator of where I am at this point. Came off a 166 on PT 45 recently so nice to see some improvement at least.
PT 64:
LR:-3
LG:-5
LR:-2
RC:-3
Total: 170
Thrilled with the LR and RC scores, and pissed about LG. That bike game, had to guess on like 4 questions.
