Re: October 2012 Retakers
Has anyone considered saving a few PT's just in case October doesn't work out and you need to retake in December? I have about 15 more PT's to go through but I don't know if I should start getting judicious with them. For those who have exhausted their prep material, do you think re-doing PT's present enough negatives to warrant holding back on taking all of them?

It's not a huge problem to do old material. But if I were you I would save 3/4. So you can prep old material and PT the new tests just before test day

Re: October 2012 Retakers
Alright y'all I had another 166 scare, but have then threw up 2 straight 172+ers. I decided that the issue wasn't any sort of problem with my technique but rather just my state-of-mind while taking the PTs. Has anyone else had any experience with this. If so, what do you do to help you chill out?

Wash-rinse-repeat. I know it's easier said than done, but try to attack the PT's with intellectual anticipation for the feedback it gives you as to where you can still improve, rather than with emotional anxiety about getting a certain score. I also would not give much stock to outlier scores.

Re: October 2012 Retakers
I'm having a marathon pseudo-competition with a prep buddy of mine tomorrow if anyone is game.
We've got a 10 section LR gauntlet planned from PTs 41 43 44 48 49. If anyone is interested in partaking in some or all of those sections and would like to meet up for review later in the day, let me know!

I slipped into one of those today and what helps me the most is taking a second, looking straight ahead and taking a couple deep breaths (seriously - fill your lungs slowly) -- 7 seconds of deep breathing to refocus versus the rest of the section spent in anxiety.bigdogmoe wrote:Alright y'all I had another 166 scare, but have then threw up 2 straight 172+ers. I am definitely rescheduling for Dec. because there is no point in retaking when I haven't been able to devote enough time to prep. Good luck to you all!

Doing some LGs and wondering if anyone can explain PT 18 Question 22 to me. I can't understand why the answer is not A.

If Johnson is to be voted up, he must get a majority of the votes from higher ranked positions. There must be at least 5 members in a higher position than him, since Olivos and Harrison are prevented from voting for him in the rules. In order to do this, at least 2 Assistants must be promoted.

OHHHHH! Thank you. I screwed up the majority requirement by failing to account for promoted folks. Better diagramming probably would have helped here.bdeebs wrote:If Johnson is to be voted up, he must get a majority of the votes from higher ranked positions. Re: October 2012 Retakers
Yeah, I wasn't sure how to diagram this. I honestly didn't really use one. I put a big "P....Assoc....Ass" and put the positions of people initially underneath them and then listed out the rules as: O-X->GJT, and after that I didn't find a way to make the diagram useful. I figured I'd waste more time trying to figure out how I wanted to diagram it than just to do the majority of the thinking in my head. I did notice at the beginning that 2 people weren't allowed to vote for J, so he couldn't be promoted during the first round. Did you find a useful way to present/manipulate the information?

Re: October 2012 Retakers
Basically what I did, except I wrote the not laws individually (e.g., ~Og). I'm not sure there is a more informative representation, since the only obvious inference to me is that J cannot be promoted during the first round. It's true that the rules have more implications in particular scenarios, but I try to refrain from making hypotheticals until a question calls for it.bdeebs wrote:Yeah, I wasn't sure how to diagram this. Completed 19 LGs today and got -4. I'm sure I've seen most of them before, even though I only recognized 5 of them. Still, not bad considering my -7 LG section in July! Also a nice break from PTs.

Re: October 2012 Retakers
So I finally got around to reviewing PT66 and genuinely feel like 9 of my 13 mistakes were avoidable carelessness or other similar errors... 2 were legitimate mistakes that I wouldn't make again because I've simply improved enough to where it wouldn't happen now, and then 2 were mistakes that I would probably make again because they were pretty difficult questions.
What my breakdown looked like:
LG -1
LR -5
RC -7
What my breakdown could have looked like:
LG 0
LR -1
RC -4
What my breakdown would probably look like now if I took that test fresh:
LG 0
LR 0
RC -2
Because fuck that test. It's going to get real in October...

Personally, I'm saving PT 66 for Oct 4th. I want my last memory before PT 67 to be a successful revenge. I didn't even review it back in June because I want to have forgotten as much if it as possible.
I will probaly take it like 0ct 2

171 on PT 53 today. My last four scores are 173, 178, 175, 171. That range is a little big for my liking. I'm hoping for some more consistency as we get closer to test day.

Today it happened: I saw a game that I had never seen before, but it felt like I had seen the game a thousand times.

THIS has been a hurdle I have yet to get past. I may give your method a try. I need to get out of the habit of letting my brain shut down and give up on parallel questions.Wormfather wrote:It also takes the bit out of a lot of the psychological tricks they trey try to play. Like making the last few questions parallels or making the correct answer d and e at the end.
