Re: JUNE 2013 Study Group / Study Partner Thread
Went to my testing center and took PT68...did not do as well as I had hoped.
RC: -5
LR1: -0
LG: -1
LR2: -1
175
What the heck is wrong with me on RC? Did anyone else find it difficult? That last LG section about killed me but I had blazed through the first three in 20 minutes so I spent the last 15 on it.
Seriously looking for any advice on RC that I can put into practice today. I have absolutely no strategy (didn't think I needed one since I hadn't been going more than -2 and typically -1/-0).

With regard to RC: yes! The only passage I had trouble with was the one on economics. Read through it and just didn't get it, so I skipped to the fourth passage and guessed all but 2 of the third (economics) passage.sasquatchsam wrote:Went to my testing center and took PT68...did not do as well as I had hoped.

I literally don't have any reason whatsoever. Probably because I hate them. In all honesty I think the first two are going to be ordering/complex ordering/in and out and we're going to have a slightly difficult distribution game and then one of the games will be the most dangerous lg.TheMostDangerousLG wrote:Why do you think that?okaygo wrote:Anyone else thinking that we are in for a basic in/out game tomorrow?

Tough LG seems to be what really moves the curve, so I'm actually hoping for a brutal section (if it is accompanied by an extra-easy RC, all the better). Make those 6-hour Saturday night LG-sessions worth it.

I find that day off is detrimental for me so I plan to do some LG early and light LR from Cambridge a night.

In case anyone is interested, there was a weird game in February unlike any I'd really seen before. Weird mixture of grouping and ordering.. unlike those rare games where you group, and then order, I think it was ordering and then grouping? I don't know, some sort of funky hybrid (you can probably google people's thoughts on the February test and find some more info). But it was super easy (first game of the section, if I recall). So be prepared for something a bit kooky to potentially pop up again.

Re: JUNE 2013 Study Group / Study Partner Thread
Hello,
I am sure this question has been answered somewhere within this thread, but I am pressed for time right now with the exam being tomorrow. I have two questions:
1) This is my first time taking the LSAT. I am "timed PT'ing" between 158-165; depending how much of the LG I get through in 35 minutes. "Untimed PT's" are at 170-175 level, so I know all I need to do is drill more on LR/LG and I'll eventually correct my speed problems. With that said, how much of an effect will a low LSAT school have on my "T14 admissions" (assuming I can get the 170+ retake in October)? I am a low GPA (3.0) canadate with somewhat exceptional softs (5+ years of experience in external audit and consulting engagements at a big four accounting firm). I really want to take the test tomorrow as a safety net in case I cannot take Octobers test, etc, and have to settle for a worse school.
(2) If I do decide to withdraw, is there still time to do so one day prior to the exam? I guess my question is what are my options for canceling the exam one day before the test date?
Ultimately, I underestimated the games because I was score near perfect untimed (biigggg difference from a true timed test averaging 5-8 wrong). I know I can correct this & am just looking for advice. LR is giving me timing problems, just not as significant (that I know I can also correct). Any input from you guys would be appreciated, you all have been a great support system throughout my studies)!

Re: JUNE 2013 Study Group / Study Partner Thread
Why would you might not be able to take the test on Oct?
In any case, most schools T-14 schools do not care all that much about retakes, so there's nothing wrong with taking multiple tests.
But a low LSAT score will definitely have an effect on your chances, esp. since your GPA is not great.
And you can withdraw today, since today is the day before the test.

So once we're in there, we fill out our info, do that little writing sample where we copy a paragraph, and then the test begins?

Re: JUNE 2013 Study Group / Study Partner Thread
Expect it to take at least 30 minutes.
Had an older gentleman on my retake who seemingly had no idea how to fill out the forms, and the proctors basically had to hold his hand through the entire thing. The man added 5-10 minutes to the entire process by himself.

Crap, do you know what time is the latest I can withdraw today (I.e - midnight)? I am studying my butt off all day today in hopes to crack LG (it could happen lol I know not likely though).magickware wrote:Why would you might not be able to take the test on Oct?

Re-taking in October is an option for me, however there is a slim chance that work could pick up and I'll be in the same boat as this time (I.e - not being fully prepared).
I guess my follow up question to you would be....."do you think a 160 score would be considered low enough by T14 admissions to dock me assuming I get the 170's in October?" I feel confident I can do a 160 if not 165 on the timed test tomorrow. As per my last message, obviously 160-165 is not high enough for any T14 with my stats, but would be a good security blanket for university of Florida (my backup school or bust). I am leaning towards going ahead and taking the exam tomorrow, but if it really will have a significant impact on my T14 chances; I don't wanna risk it. I've only studied about 60 hours over the last month total as I decided to take the LSAT mid-may. I know I can get my score up, but would love to get a tier I score locked in in alleviating the pressure for October if that makes sense?
Thank you for the response,

It says 11:59 PM on the website.
T-14 schools probably won't care whether you had a 160 or not, so long as your newest score is in or above their target average. Some do iirc, but the majority do not.

Try taking 20-30 mgs of adderal and .5 mg of Xanax, maybe .25mg if you never take it often; that should relieve the jitters without making you forget what your doing. I don't take the stuff anymore since college five years ago, but I found your post funny and thought I would add my two cents (if your into that sort of thing - there's nothing wrong with it it's just not my thing anymore). Good luck addy!LDVM4334 wrote:So who's taking pharmaceuticals for assistance on this thing?
I'm prescribed Adderall (30 mg/day, theoretically) for many years, which actually probably hurt me last time when I took too much and rushed through RC out of nervousness/jitters, got a 169. Looking for a 170+ this time so I can get into Michigan, hopefully (in-state).
This time, I'll be taking less, plus some propranolol for performance anxiety, which has definitely also afflicted me in the past.
As long as there's no tricky game, it should be smooth sailing.
I've been clear-headed on LR, at least to the point where I can get the easy ones the first time through and be done in about 27-30 minutes, leaving me enough time to go back over the hard ones.
RC I have to concede 3 or so, just because I've only gotten under that like twice.
LG has been the variable, but I feel good enough now that so long as there's no ridiculously hard game, I should be okay.
Been scoring 171-176, with about -5 in LR and -3 in RC, the difference coming in games.
Famous last words, maybe.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
