I've bartended a lot, and am currently doing it in a speakeasy, here are some easy cocktails you can do at home.
"I like something refreshing."
Ingredients
Gin/Vodka
fresh citrus of your choice: orange, pomelo (I seriously recommend this), grapefruit
lemon or lime juice
sugar
ice
soda water
This is super easy to do. You can adjust the proportions to your liking. If you have a rind peeler, you're a boss. Get some rind, set it aside. Peel as much fruit as you want, drop it in a glass. Put as sugar cube's worth of sugar in. Put 0.5 oz lemon or lime juice in. Put 1.5-2 oz of Gin or Vodka (don't go too heavy on this if you want it to taste good. If you want to get fucked up, just make more cocktails. Take a thing, like a wooden spoon, and mash this mixture in the glass. Squeeze the juices out of the fruit and mix it up good. Add ice, top with soda water. Give it a quick stir. Take the rind you set aside, squeeze it across the top of the cocktail and rub the rim with it. Variation of a tom collins.
"I'm a fucking man who drinks whiskey, fuck that pussy cocktail shit"
Ingredients
Whisk[e]y of your choice
Orange rind
Sugar cube
Small bottle of Angostura Bitter
This is super easy to do. Get a rind peeler, peel some orange rind. Give the rind a squeeze to squeeze out the oils, drop that, a sugar cube, and a few drops of angostura bitter in (the bitter is like an herbal flavoring for cocktails, can find it in any liquor store). Add ice. Add 2-3 oz of whiskey. Stir. This is the classic old fashioned, fuck that orange slice/cherry bullshit.

"I like hoppy beers, and cocktails and liquor are for bitches. 99 hour IPA for me"
Ingredients
Rye whiskey
Campari
Sweet Vermouth
Soda Water
1.5 oz rye. 0.75 oz campari. 0.5 oz sweet vermouth. Add ice. Stir. Add soda water. IT's a variation of a negroni. You switch gin for rye, and change up the proportions to give it more bitterness/spiciness.
Give me your taste preferences and I'll recommend a cocktail.
Go to a bar, ask them to make these cocktails as they're written. If you like it, buy ingredients and make it yourself.
