This is all pretty rude if you've never taken engineering classes.RZ5646 wrote: That being said, in general, it seems to me like engineering kids exaggerate how difficult their work is, especially since they're rewarded for it very handsomely upon graduation (and even before, with numerous scholarships and lucrative internships). Many people share this view. We've all heard jokes like "how do you know someone's an engineer? don't worry, they'll tell you" which turn on a widespread negative perception of engineering students.

You'll wreck your GPA without ever enjoying any of the benefits that are supposed to come from getting an engineering degree. Some argument can be made for patent law, but even then I think if I had an engineering degree with a GPA good enough for a T14 I'd take the money and run. A good engineer probably makes at least as much as a patent lawyer.nlee10 wrote:Explain yourself.RZ5646 wrote: But even if that's true, doing engineering to become a lawyer is not a smart idea.
TCR for prelaw is do an easy major and get a 3.9+.

RZnumbers, you can still fit in if you just chill out and don't commit to being so gosh darn unlikable.

This is just the same STEM vs. humanities argument that has been happening at countless colleges for decades, so let's just forget about it. You do you, I'll do me, and we'll all be happy.

Shut up
If you are smart and you work harder than others then you can have an awesome GPA in engineering
Patent lawyers have a starting salary of 160-175k engineers 70-75k
Maybe some people who go into engineering actually WANT to practice law because they are interested in it and its not about money
You're right about chemistry and bio not being real science. I mean who wants cancer to be cured anyway? Ebola? That shit will go away on its own.
I've taken classes across all majors and I can tell you its never the STEM majors complaining about taking 12 credit hours and having 2 (omg!) finals to study for
You're right, I bet you could handle engineering if you tried. You'll also be at the top of your law school class and graduate with 6 job offers from top firms

Look Jackel you don't know me either so cool it with the personal remarks. Yes, there are many lazy and whiny liberal arts kids, but I don't think I'm one of them.

The animosity in this thread is unreal.

You also have to account for the patent lawyers spending 3 years and up to $300k on law school, then probably getting kicked out of big law after a couple years and making less. Not sure who would actually end up making more in the end.Patent lawyers have a starting salary of 160-175k engineers 70-75k

Never said you were one of them. I made no personal attacks unless you count me pointing out your "I'm a smart guy logic and will be good at it logic"RZ5646 wrote:Look Jackel you don't know me either so cool it with the personal remarks. See, some people get scholarships to law school. Or some people work part time while their company pays for the degree and then they have a guaranteed job after without debt. Also, last time I checked, lawyers with a science degree are the last people to get kicked out of big law. One would say they are actually in demand in some places because of the high entrance barrier and limited supply of candidates. It also doesn't take a rocket scientist to do the math above to determine who would end up making more money. But it isn't all about money anyway.

Pretty sure DF is a patent litigator, and we know how that's working out for him.
BUT ANYWAY, I'm tired of arguing about it. This is worse than discussing politics or religion.

I thought I was a pretty smart guy, but I got weeded the heck out of electrical engineering. That's how I ended up as a carpenter with an English degree. I can give you a real good combo deal on a new deck and some tutoring as long as you can hear me over the air compressor and chop saw.
