Think for OP to maintain a semblance of normality about him, he would need to spend half his salary on shrinks.

It's because you're a dick.
But I'm not. I'm usually either joking or reacting to something someone else said; I never instigate. I'm a mellow, laid-back dude.
To be honest RZ, I don't hate you, but I sure as hell don't like you.

You rarely ever follow our jokes, and act uptight when we fill you in, (i.e.: Jackel's age, URM poll). It was insane how many hints we dropped.

I've never seen you say anything remotely funny. If you were trying to sound witty or cool when you were talking to Jackel about the value of engineering and shittiness of the law profession, that was drowned out by your shitting on her decision.

You straight up shit on STEM by arguing that STEM majors are successful simply because applied math happens to be more practical to businesses. "I never instigate"--bullshit. I would've called flame, but then I realized it was just OP.

When you shit on STEM majors, that really left a sour taste in my mouth. I never responded to you earlier because it blew my mind that you would write what you did. But I guess I'll respond now, since it'll at least shed some light on why I don't like you.

First, saying that I was "hinting at the stereotypical engineering major superiority complex," and later suggesting that was essentially what my point was? Seriously, RZ? I don't normally hate on humanities majors, but if you're a humanities major who's going to 1. Shit on STEM and 2. Casually suggest that if you had gone that route you would've suddenly been better off and more successful: then no, I'm going to dislike you and I'm going to shit on you. You're talking shit to an entire group, some of whom went through hell to even graduate. How many weed out classes do you have to take to finish your degree, RZ?

STEM majors aren't successful just because what they learn is directly useful to businesses. You stating that this was just a "fact" really, really irked me.

If direct practicality were the criterion for employment outcomes, UChicago econ majors would be absolutely fucked in the job market. Hell, everyone in Harvard's Math 55 suddenly wouldn't be godlike candidates for virtually whatever the f they wanted.

A large part of the value of a degree lies in what it signals to employers (and no, I'm not stating this as "fact," but it sure as hell is a lot more convincing than your "value to our materialistic culture" bullshit).

Suppose they had a Mechanical Engineering major and a Humanities major. Sure, the former is probably going to be viewed as more "practical."

But at least in the former case, you know that in a nontrivial number of classes, that person had to fight against the curve in a non-bullshit class for the grade she got. But how the hell do you know if the humanities person actually competed with classmates for a grade, or simply had it handed to her?

Take one look through your course catalog at the requirements for the math/mechanical engineering/electrical engineering/applied math/mathematical statistics/econ math majors, and tell me you feel comfortable finishing a single one of them with comparable GPA and comparable effort as your current major.

This. RZ also tried to act like he wasn't trying to throw shade my way about watches, even though it was pretty clear.
