I just took PT 44 yesterday and was seriously struggling with my timing, but when I took PT 43 the week before, I had a little time left on a couple of the sections and actually hit 170 for the first time (!!!). I'm terrified of my scores fluctuating with each test because of timing... I don't really struggle with the easier questions, but when I come across harder ones, I spend too much time sitting there trying to figure it out and it screws up my timing.
I was missing up to -3/4 due to running out of time. After a few PTs I couldn't take it anymore so now I will stop myself if I am stuck on a question deciding between two choices, pick one, mark it and move on. No point missing out on easy possible questions at the end especially if the question you are mulling over might end up wrong anyway. Set baselines. I try to hit 15 in first 15 mins of LR for instance. I glance at my watch after every page. If I'm not near the 15 min mark when I finish 15, I know I need to speed up.
For RC I like doing the first two passages in 15-16 mins so I have 20 for the rest.
