For years, I skipped breakfast and that was tragically stupid on test day since my belly's resounding growls became distracting! Definitely high protein. No hops!

That's a pretty questionable claim, to say the least, but if this approach works for you, that's great.Cupidity wrote:Sugar-water+vitamins
before you laugh at this here is the science:
your memory and cognitive skills actually function better when you are hungry, it is an evolutionary device along the lines of "oh fuck, where did I see that berry-bush". In the short term, say 2-3 days, all your brain needs to function is glucose and water. Now I wouldn't recommend this on test day without some prior experimentation, but I basically live on sugar-water and vitamins for 3-4 days worth of finals week every semester and it seems to pay off in my GPA. Take a PT really hungry and check your score, I think you may see results.

I would recommend a couple strong bloody marys and a strawberry filled doughnut

I think porridge is a fine test-day breakfast.

More importantly, do NOT have a large dinner the night before and then drink a large latte coffee in the morning. I speak from personal experience. You will nearly shart yourself during the test.

Eat whatever you normally do for breakfast. If you don't eat breakfast (like myself), get some instant breakfast and a big glass of milk to hold you over until the break. Good luck!

I plan to eat the same thing I eat every morning: a bowl of oatmeal and a protein shake. I'll bring a protein bar for the break.

What is the reason for all of these recommendations for protein? Is it supposed to keep you sharp or something?

Lol... but probably very true. But, I would think that if you're one of those people who always starts the day with a large latte coffee in the morning, don't skip it either. Just be familiar with how your body responds to caffeine.reasonabledoubt wrote:More importantly, do NOT have a large dinner the night before and then drink a large latte coffee in the morning. Protein has a lot of amino acids which are essential for your brain to function properly. You brain can actually respond quite quickly to the introduction of more amino acids, and you are likely to have a more positive mood because your brain is no longer malnourished. It won't make you smarter, but it will help you feel better.letsdoit1982 wrote:What is the reason for all of these recommendations for protein? Is it supposed to keep you sharp or something?

Stay away from any sort of breakfast pastry (chocolate croissant) type of food, especially if you pair it with coffee...a sugar crash would be horrible.

I went Cheerios and and one piece of toast and cut my coffee consumption by 2/3.
I went for carbs and a slight boost from the coffee. I was very pleased with my choice.

...Sugar-water for 2 days before and on test.
WTF?
But seriously, the brain works better when you are hungry, much better--to a point, after a while the nutrient deprivation starts to decrease function. But for finals week and serious tests, I don't eat anything on and before, sugar water keeps your brain running short term, vitamins if you got em.
It's extreme, but it works, if you are interested in trying--experiment before th real thing so you know what you are doing.
