phenomenon on the LSAT literally means thing, idea, etc. It can be looked at as a variable in a way. It can mean anything. I think there was a question about dinosaurs and phenomenon. The dinosaurs were the phenomenon.ngogirl12 wrote:Still watching the videos for RC.
So far:
P1: -1 5/6
P2: -2 4/6
My two mistakes on P2 were 1) main point question, I went with a fact in the argument that was true as opposed to the main point, 2) it was a what was the function of the third paragraph question, i went with the enumerate instances in which a phenomenon occurred vs provides support for the argument. My problem here was I was thinking of phenomenon in terms of the argument instead of something such as lightening (example given by JY) that occurred. It was a Humanities passage, so I'm thinking when I see the word phenomenon I will think more along the lines of scientific occurrence as opposed to an idea or claim.
As protein said earlier, the most important thing is to recognize the mistakes and understand them so we don't make them in the future. There is no point in bemoaning your existence or self worth, that's not going to help in LSAT prep. At least that's my attitude, maybe it's too cheery lol.
Anyone else have this problem? After I drill or do RC, I am exhausted. Doing a LG or LR section does not tire me out, but RC really drains me mentally. I'm sitting here yawning away watching the video, but staying away from caffeine (I can't drink it after 4pm because then I'll be up all night).. I wonder what I can do to combat this? Really hope I don't get RC as experimental lol

Sometimes studying for this test feels like trying to walk up a down-moving escalator. You really cannot take any section for granted.

I'll finish BRing LR and RC tomorrow. Just too tired and worn out to do it right now.
Going to need to work on RC speed. I'm fairly close though.
Coding a bit and going to sleep.

Your argument is flawed because:
D) fails to consider the possibility that not all down-moving escalators actually go downwards because fuck you I'm right

Think I might start doing PTs systematically, BR-ing properly, and really trying to learn from them.

Watching some 7sage from the games I did from Dec 2011.
Apparently, I set up the game board for the fourth game almost correctly. I just needed to go one step farther and simplify it so I could get through the questions faster. A little annoying now that I see it.
On the other hand, JY labels #13 from Dec 2011 LG as a really hard question, and I think I got that within 15 seconds. Just really clicked quickly. I had already basically prephrased my answer knowing it had to deal with P, W, & O.

Re: The Official September 2016 Study Group - WAKE ME UP WHEN SEPTEMBER ENDS
So, today was not my day for RC.
I ended up going:
P3: -1 4/5
P4: -3 3/6
P5: -3 3/6
I watched all the videos, reviewed my answers, and wrote up explanations for other people, BUT with the exception of one question ALL of my mistakes were to tiny mistakes with details. I guess it goes to say you really need to be 100% ALERT when you are reading the passage, note every little detail.
The question which made absolutely NO sense to me is: it's asking what the author's attitude is towards a study and the answer is admiring, generally receptive; I chose the one that says appreciative, neutral. JY says the reason why the correct answer is correct is because the author uses the word intriguing in reference to the author of the study's theories "She proposes two intriguing answers...", but the entire passage is written in a completely neutral tone. I get that intrigue means to be fascinated or interested by something, but I really think that it could still be considered neutral. Oh well, it was a passage from 1999 so maybe there was some leeway. Really hope that would not be an issue with the 70s RC sections.
Going to call it a night for RC. Hoping that tomorrow will bring better luck!

There will always be 1 or 2 (maybe even more) "it's right because I say it's right" LRs in each PT and I just focus on getting everything else right. I'm not going for 180 so even if I let these ones go I can still *theoretically* get a ridiculously good score.

How do people decide which answer to choose in these situations?! It genuinely can go both ways...

Still struggling to get through an entire AR section. I did PT 27 today and didn't even have time to get to the last seven questions. I've been able to work my way to getting through all of the LR and RC questions fairly consistently, but AR is still the one lingering. I think the best I've done is getting to all but the last three questions.

Long weekend up here so I ended up taking a 3 day break. Start working full time a week from now so I'm hoping to kill it study wise this week. Hopefully taking 2 PTs getting closer to that sweet 170

I'm getting around 6-3 wrong on the RC is usually. Are there any tips how I can get 2-0 wrong? I just want to improve my chances.

Ugh, I was going to do PT 60 today, but I didn't finish BRing an RC section and an LR section from yesterday. I'll feel so weird not doing that first before taking a PT.

On break right now. Lol this PT is going to be awful. Totally off today - went like 6/10 on the LR warm-up
can't imagine I did much better during the set. Need to figure out how to wake tf up in the morning. Welp, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
Gonna actually BR for the first time, which should be interesting.

Eh - I'm not certain how critical it is that you actually score it rather than just understand why you missed what you missed. I think some of the tools in comparing blind scores could be helpful though.amta wrote:tru confessions: i never score my blind reviews. i just blind review, check if im correct, then accept my initial score.

i think it can only lend to a false sense of security. a certain mindset that "oh, i just have to do this a a little better next time and ill get X score, just like my BR."34iplaw wrote:Eh - I'm not certain how critical it is that you actually score it rather than just understand why you missed what you missed. That's a fair point, but I do also think that it helps you better understand your grasp of the material in non test taking environments. One does not need to actually score their BR to do that. If you aren't understanding why you got what wrong (not getting the material vs. a time constraint), I do think that's an issue.amta wrote:i think it can only lend to a false sense of security. a certain mindset that "oh, i just have to do this a a little better next time and ill get X score, just like my BR."34iplaw wrote:Eh - I'm not certain how critical it is that you actually score it rather than just understand why you missed what you missed. I kind of find it a bit motivating, as I look at it as something attainable... like... if I understand the material a bit better, work a bit smarter and faster, I can improve to there. It shows that, in some way, that score is within the realm of reason.
