To be fair, I haven't been agreeing with most of Rigo's points (he called me an asshat or something), but the N word and the F word are indeed a little more heavier than "Fatty."

except using the word fatty on the right person could cause them to go home and commit suicide. the n word is less likely to make that happen. we should probably just all agree that none of those words should be used and move on.

i just meant that when you have severely or even somewhat obese people around and you throw that word out there, it's never taken lightly, and is very hurtful on a deep level for them, esp since it's something many cannot change...

except that words especially like the N word have such a more historical and deeply rooted meaning in today's world, especially American society.

sigh. these are all offensive words plain and simple. imo, if you're using it as a joke and you're not actually calling someone one of these words, I personally think it's fine, even the N word. but that's just my opinion.

time to get back to studying.

It's who I am Rigo. I think there are a lot of ways to be funny (and make fun of people) that don't include use of terms/concepts that are very clearly out of bounds in any normal context.

Also, I don't think many, if any, people are disagreeing with whoever is posting about the word fatty. Calling someone a fatty is clearly out of bounds. No need to body shame people.

But the word fatty itself has other applications, like hey, I really need to cut back my fatty acid intake. Clearly, the other words do not. Also, length of historical implications really have no bearing on level of offensiveness.

To be clear, I wasn't using that as justifying that n is ok in any way, but that it's never ok to heckle someone on their body image.
