except using the word fatty on the right person could cause them to go home and commit suicide. the n word is less likely to make that happen. we should probably just all agree that none of those words should be used and move on.ccordero wrote:To be fair, I haven't been agreeing with most of Rigo's points (he called me an asshat or something), but the N word and the F word are indeed a little more heavier than "Fatty."justabitunusual wrote:Rigo's word trumps all logic...you're actually hurting your other points here by arguing against fatty being included if we're categorizing words into "those that should never be uttered"Dirigo wrote:Nah you're just wrong, so please stop talking.justabitunusual wrote:ok i'm out for a while but Rigo "Fatty" can go in the same boat with N and F...people being genetically predisposed and such...js

i just meant that when you have severely or even somewhat obese people around and you throw that word out there, it's never taken lightly, and is very hurtful on a deep level for them, esp since it's something many cannot change...

except that words especially like the N word have such a more historical and deeply rooted meaning in today's world, especially American society.
sigh. these are all offensive words plain and simple. imo, if you're using it as a joke and you're not actually calling someone one of these words, I personally think it's fine, even the N word. but that's just my opinion.
time to get back to studying.

Re: The Official June 2015 Study Group
It's who I am Rigo. I think there are a lot of ways to be funny (and make fun of people) that don't include use of terms/concepts that are very clearly out of bounds in any normal context.
Also, I don't think many, if any, people are disagreeing with whoever is posting about the word fatty. Calling someone a fatty is clearly out of bounds. No need to body shame people.
But the word fatty itself has other applications, like hey, I really need to cut back my fatty acid intake. Clearly, the other words do not. Also, length of historical implications really have no bearing on level of offensiveness.

To be clear, I wasn't using that as justifying that n is ok in any way, but that it's never ok to heckle someone on their body image.

180. Just 180. Bravo sir. You are the greatest bunny I have ever met. Including my own rabbit named bunny.santoki wrote:[Commotion starts as arguments erupt amongst the council members.]
Gimligo: "Never trust a TLSer!"
[Shakodo remains seated, watching the Post, with the figures of the council reflected on its surface.
Gandoki: "Do you not understand that while we bicker amongst ourselves, OP's power grows?! None can escape it! You'll all be destroyed!"
[Suddenly, flames flare up, engulfing the surface of the Post.]
Post: "Ash Nazg Durbatulûk! Ash Nazg Gimbatul! Ash Nazg Gimbatul! Ash Nazg Gimbatul!"
[The intensity of the arguments increase. Slowly, determination dawns on Shakodo's face. She stands and takes a few steps toward the arguing council, trying to make her voice heard.]
Shakodo: "I will take it!"
[The argument dies down. Gandoki closes his eyes as he hears Shakodo's statement. The members of the council slowly turn towards Shakodo, astonished.]
Shakodo: "I will take the Post on Topic. Though — I do not know the way."
Gandoki: [walks towards Shakodo] "I will help you bear this burden, Shakodo Baggawaw, as long as it is yours to bear." [places his hands reassuringly on Shakodo's shoulders]
The Walking Debtagorn: [rises] "If by my life or death, I can protect you, I will."
[He approaches Shakodo and kneels before her.]
The Walking Debtagorn: "You have my sword."
Legoler Red: "And you have my bow." [walks to join them]
Gimligo: "And my axe!" [looks grimly at Legoler Red as he joins the group]
Borojimjam: [walks over to them] "You carry the fate of us all little one. If this is indeed the will of the Council, then TLS will see that OP will fall."
Elronymous the Mawd: "Nine companions… So be it! You shall be the Fellowship of the Post!"
