Re: The Official December 2016 Study Group - Time to register! New Poll!
Just registered at my university, the same place where I messed up yesterday. Gonna do a section every weekday morning, blind review at night, and 5 section practice tests on Saturday mornings until the third of December. Just have to make sure I'm confident and can take a deep breath and read slowly and retain information on test day. Remember that it isn't the end of the world if I go -3 on the first LR

Hi Everyone,
I've been lurking on these forums for a while now and have decided to finally join the community. I sat for the September LSAT yesterday but cancelled my scores after the game section because I did the second game omitting a rule by accident and didn't realize it until the last question of the game, and then the virus game rocked my world. Anyways, I was looking at 9 guesses on that section and I decided to call it a wash immediately afterwards and look towards December.
In preparation for September, I took the entire Test Master's course, but I don't think I want to do that for December. I don't really know where to begin when it comes to studying without a Prep Course, but I want to figure it out and I was hoping you all might be able to assist me. I have heard about 7Sage, Manhattan Prep, and some others from various posts on this site. I figure I want to keep doing a PT a week until the real test, and then work on whatever it is I am not doing that well on. I seem to be stuck at a -6 on RC, I got -6 on my first PT and on my last. I was going -2 or -1 on games until that September test, so I am looking forward to seeing that section once it is released. For LR I am typically in the -6 to -8 range but have been steadily improving.
Anyways, I was hoping you all might share some of your Non-Prep Course studying strategies and that we all can help each other improve in the next few months leading up to the test!

Yeah, just keep checking back. I was a little panic stricken and neurotic about it (which ended up being pointless as I eventually withdrew lol), people start freaking out closer to the test and begin to drop out. Also, I'm sure many people will be satisfied with their score and drop out as well.galeatus wrote:Oooooh good shout, completely forgot that. Booked the 3-hour away TC as a precaution, and hoping that a spot will open up after grey day.ngogirl12 wrote:I had this problem in September (eventually withdrew). What I ended up doing was registering for a center 2 hours away and checking back almost everyday, literally 1.5 months before the test a spot near me opened up. Don't fear I'm sure once the LSAT is released i.e. scores and ppl get antsy they'll start dropping out..galeatus wrote:Jesus, the TC in my city has filled up already, nearest available TC is a 3 hour flight away.
Fuck.

Someone on 7Sage said it was similar to PT 6 Game 4, the Islands game so you can try that game until the test is released.Deardevil wrote:PT 79 needs to come out A$AP so that I can attempt this virus game...
Also, I think PT 78 was not released until 3 weeks before the actual LSAT, but mikey or IP can correct me on this if I'm wrong.

i got PT78 the same night i got my score, you get a copy of it but i don't remember when it went public. i think it might've been like 3 weeks after the administration.ngogirl12 wrote:Someone on 7Sage said it was similar to PT 6 Game 4, the Islands game so you can try that game until the test is released.Deardevil wrote:PT 79 needs to come out A$AP so that I can attempt this virus game...

I think the fact that there was a weird/pattern game on the September test makes it highly unlikely there will be one on the December test. The weird game on last years administration was on the December test, which makes me think the weird game on next years administration will be the June test.
Also, I saw on 7Sage someone post that their proctor told them from this June, so June 2017 LSAC will be testing out a online/computerized/tablet version of the LSAT but there might be a paper option for people who previously took a paper administrated test.
That made me freak TF out. Also made me realize this test is December or Die for me-no more postponing! I think it's doable since I hopefully will be PTing in a week.

I am yet another September LSAT bomber. Wow. I didn't prepare as well as I should have and the LG Virus question was insane! I am asking if you (since a good bunch of you have been preparing for 6+months) think I should begin anew and aim for December or just focus on February 2017. The school where I am applying will accept a Feb. score (I am limited due to being an older student with a full time career and teenagers in school).
Also, I have read thru the posts and have seen what many of you are studying with but do you have a specific list or should I invest in every book and workbook mentioned? If I am spending that much money on prep books should I just take a prep class? I am so confused on how much material I should have to have a good experience.
Lastly, I took my September test at Ball State in Indiana and I wouldn't recommend the site if you can avoid it. The desks are so small you can't even fit the LSAT book on the surface at the same time as the scantron, and all of my pencils and highlighter kept falling off into the floor. Thanks for any advice you have!!

Don't make the same mistake and jump to take before you are properly prepared. Make sure that on your PTs you are averaging your target score before taking. And if your target school accepts Feb scores even better. More time to prep!firegal360 wrote:I am yet another September LSAT bomber. Wow. Watched the PT6 game on 7sage yesterday, want to say it's loosely similar but not really - island game had multiple connections for game pieces; whereas the virus game was still sequential but with an ability (and forced to in a spot) split the sequence. I'm definitely ready to get another look at it though.Deardevil wrote:Oh, that game is fun! Don't remember why it took me nearly 12 minutes, though... Yeah, I had my doubts since that game's pretty straightforward.Dodocogon wrote:Watched the PT6 game on 7sage yesterday, want to say it's loosely similar but not really - island game had multiple connections for game pieces; whereas the virus game was still sequential but with an ability (and forced to in a spot) split the sequence. The one with computer viruses is sequential? And hard? That's scary.

Yeah, you would know best since you actually took the test. Would you say if you stared at the rules for ~30 seconds-1 minute you would figure out a favorable set up? Or is it a grind it game with tons of hypotheticals?Dodocogon wrote:Watched the PT6 game on 7sage yesterday, want to say it's loosely similar but not really - island game had multiple connections for game pieces; whereas the virus game was still sequential but with an ability (and forced to in a spot) split the sequence. I'm using the 7Sage online course. I used that starting in January and will probably be (fingers crossed!) finishing it this week. That said, I went part time from January through end of June and started going full time from mid July onwards. I also used Cambridge sets of 1-38 for LR-RC-LG to assist me through the journey. I think if you plan on using older material to drill, then I would invest in one of the PowerScore books they have books of the earlier material for an affordable price. If you want to go only on prepbooks, I would recommend the PowerScore Bible for LG and Manhattan for LR and RC. Regardless of what you end up doing, I would recommend using Manhattan for RC, it made a huge difference for me. If you can practice and drill every LG possible, 7Sage has all the explanations on their site for free. I would also listen to what Barack'O'Drama said and not take tests or the real thing until you are ready. Finally, I would take preptests once you have mastered the material (I have moved my date for taking PT's at least 4x now, because I didn't feel comfortable enough with the material to move on).firegal360 wrote:I am yet another September LSAT bomber. I think taking a course is good if you don't have the discipline to sit down and study a certain amount of hours every day. I'm sure with teenage children it must be difficult for you, so your situation is different than someone who is studying full time or working and studying in their free time. Another idea is to self study until you feel confidant enough with the material to take practice tests, and once you start PTing hire a tutor to work with you on problem areas.
Hope that helps!!

Thats the way to do it! Hopefully, I crushed the test this weekend and don't need to re-take, but i am def going to emphasize this even more this time around because as tough as the last game was i think i would have gotten it no questions ask (maybe take a little longer, but finish it confidently)with exposure to something similar.ngogirl12 wrote:I know, I know lol. Said this in the waiter's thread, but it took me 3 questions of brute forcing my way through it to come up with a serviceable game board - one of the game pieces had to split the sequence into two rows from one - I think it took doing multiple hypotheticals and applying the rules to get to the point where you can see how they fit together. Maybe without the pressure of an actual administration you could get a game board before hitting the questions, but I couldn't yesterday and I had ~11/12 minutes for the game itself. Wasn't comfortable enough to split the game board/determine different universes. Just left my base one reasonably open - the redeeming factor was that there was only 6 pieces.ngogirl12 wrote:Yeah, you would know best since you actually took the test. It may have been like PT77 game 3 in that the premise was weird, but not necessarily extremely difficult. The questions also weren't anything crazy... it did definitely have a (loose) game board unlike PT77.

Same I wasn't able to derive any game board until really looking at the questions, brute forcing, my way through and kinda figuring out how to set one up and how the game works. I had about the same time as you too. If it wasn't timed probably would have been able to figure it out more confidently in like 15 min or so.Dodocogon wrote:Said this in the waiter's thread, but it took me 3 questions of brute forcing my way through it to come up with a serviceable game board - one of the game pieces had to split the sequence into two rows from one - I think it took doing multiple hypotheticals and applying the rules to get to the point where you can see how they fit together.
