Re: JUNE 2013 Study Group / Study Partner Thread
Thinking of just printing all the RC passages from PT's 10-20 (so 40 passages total) and just drilling, perhaps drilling 8 passages in a row to build endurance (so aiming to complete each 8 passage-set in 70 minutes). Thoughts?

Very well thought out response!Daily_Double wrote:What are your issues with RC? If accuracy and not endurance, then no. If endurance and not accuracy then yes. If accuracy and endurance, well then it depends on how big of an issue your accuracy is. If your accuracy issue is greater than -6 per section, assuming you've done more than ten sections, then no. If -6, or less then maybe, your call, I'd say no.weathercoins wrote:Thinking of just printing all the RC passages from PT's 10-20 (so 40 passages total) and just drilling, perhaps drilling 8 passages in a row to build endurance (so aiming to complete each 8 passage-set in 70 minutes). Thanks, it actually is more accuracy but if the RC section is at the end of a PT, the accuracy is lower (thus suggesting some endurance too).Daily_Double wrote:What are your issues with RC? If I review each 8 section set when I am done, though, and look at what I got wrong and try to figure out why, I feel like it will help with accuracy too, no?
I've heard that the books/guides/Bibles are least helpful for RC (and it makes sense why)... so I figure this is a possible alternative.

Re: JUNE 2013 Study Group / Study Partner Thread
Just wanted to get this off my chest:
I'm nervous as hell about the LSAT, because I literally have NO IDEA how well I need to do to get into either of the schools I'm aiming for. I'm not trying to get into a T6 or even a T14, but the combination of my age, advanced degree, good softs, lousy uGPA and the unpredictability of this application cycle (and likely the next as well, when I'll actually be applying) means that most of the predictive tools aren't of much use to me.
Okay - taking a deep breath and getting back to studying now.

Re: JUNE 2013 Study Group / Study Partner Thread
Took a diagnostic today, wasn't too pleased with the results, though not too horrible after nearly a year of not seeing any LSAT stuff. Scored a 159, went -15 combined on LR, -0 on LG and -10 on RC.
The biggest issue for me here was staying focus, I just need to regain the focus I had last June when I was churning out PT'd 180s. I'm going to be a HUGE splitter, so every LSAT point counts.

Just did my first diagnostic too. I got a very disappointing 161 last Oct (was PTing 170-2 last summer). So I haven't even glanced at a book and had tons of distractions/interruptions and I got a 164 on PT 40. So that's a little encouraging... But just makes me mad that I bombed the real thing so bad.

I had to stay late at work, so I didn't get to do as much tonight as I would have liked. But I read half of MLSAT LG Chapter 2, and just drilled a game — PT3-S1-G2 (difficulty 1). Got -1 on the last question because I was rushing and omitted a rule (finished in 5:11, but not worth the -1!)
I'm planning to take PT 21 tomorrow. I'm hoping to be able to drill some LGs at work tomorrow too.

You'll do fine bro. Stick with the process and you'll get up there.scham wrote:Just did my first diagnostic too. I got a very disappointing 161 last Oct (was PTing 170-2 last summer). Re: JUNE 2013 Study Group / Study Partner Thread
What's the PT and Game Number on this one? I'll check it out and see if I saw something differentlyDaily_Double wrote:Today I did some drilling throughout the day.
RC - PT 9, untimed, -5
Wrong: 4, 6, 21, 25, 27
Unsure: #2 (A and D), 12 (had nothing but the correct answer),
RC - PT 10, untimed, although this time I subconsciously looked at my watch immediately before, I finished roughly 37 minutes later, -3
Wrong: #8, 21, 26
I wasn't unsure about any on this one, besides the ones I got wrong, one of which I was sure about, it was weird, the whole section felt great. Now I just have to figure out why. I didn't do anything except review my mistakes from PT 9 before doing this one.
Games - Grouping (untimed), -1 total, all level ones except when noted otherwise
p8, (5:51), 5Q
p9, (5:59) 7Q
*p10, (6:54), 6Q
p11, (4:58), 5Q, level 2
*p12, (7:16), 6Q, level 2, -1
p13, (5:47), 5Q, level 2
* I spent too much time during both of these diagramming and looking for inferences, usually when I don't feel satisfied, I'll do a couple hypos, which I did, but the combination of the groups made this much more time consuming than I thought. Both contained more than 10 variables, think 12+ of something, males, females, different types of each, and 3+ groups to put them in. The reason I know I spent too much time, is because I looked at my phone and moved to the questions around 3:30 on p11, and 4:00 on p12 (I don't remember exactly for this one, but it was above 3:30), and yet I was armed with at least all of the inferences to complete the problems, and furthermore the problems were not difficult at all, just weird set ups, for me. Filed away for the future...

Re: JUNE 2013 Study Group / Study Partner Thread
Hey all,
Checking in. I am a retaker sitting on a pair of 169s (June/Oct 12'). I work full-time, but should be available to study/review most weekdays after 6:30 PM CST.
The "June 2012" tread was instrumental in pushing my scores from the mid-160s to the upper-160s. I have high hopes for the 2013 thread. Once I have finished laying out my study plan/goals, I will check back in. In the meantime, feel free to ask me questions about what things worked/did not work for the 2012 edition of the study group.
I look forward to working with many of you and best of luck!

What didn't work for the October 12? Was it the lack of time? choking during the test? Was a study method you were using not ideal? The materials maybe?

Re: JUNE 2013 Study Group / Study Partner Thread
Truthfully, burnout. I felt rushed going into October and I was averaging 70 hours a week at work. I made improvements in the areas that were a problem for me in June, but let other areas slip. Additionally, I think I may have lost sight of the importance of the fundamentals (aka got a bit cocky with PT scores).nugnoy wrote:What didn't work for the October 12? Thanks a lot.
This game took me about 7 minute.

Re: JUNE 2013 Study Group / Study Partner Thread
Just out of curiosity, are all of you working full time while studying? I'm currently working full time, with a bit of take home work during the week. I look at your guys' schedules and I can't fathom being able to put in the same hours. I feel like I am already behind, even though this is a retake for me. I am loosely following LSAT Blog's 5 month schedule. Right now I am only able to comfortably give 20 hours a week, with most of those hours coming on the weekend. Currently I am working on grouping games. Having studied for LG before, although insufficiently, many of the exercises out of MLSAT and LSAT Blog are familiar . I want to start taking timed sections of LG to test for both speed and accuracy, even though LSAT Blog recommends waiting until I have covered every aspect of LG before going for timed sections. Am I jumping the gun on moving onto full timed sections, should I just stay focused on maybe timing single games only? While I am anxious to find out how I am doing in the big picture, I also want to stay patient with the process, something I didn't do last time.

Re: JUNE 2013 Study Group / Study Partner Thread
Hey guys--
So, I feel like I master a concept when I'm just drilling it. I can do 50 LR's, for example, and only miss a few here or there, but test time comes and PFFFT down the drain. Did PT 50 today and scored a miserable 159 (because I panic-ed on a LG section), but most importantly because on the LR I went -3 and then -9 (crazily missed the last 4 questions). Is it that when I'm drilling I have a little 'hint' as to what the answer is? (like: ohhh, these are all 'identify the flaw', etc) Felt like I was getting good at LR...and then the divebombing today. Not acceptable.

I recommend you drill LG from 1-28 then take timed LG from 29-38, this is my plan.TJFergu85 wrote:Just out of curiosity, are all of you working full time while studying? I followed LSATBlog's 7 months plan, but I am changing my approach to LR. I did fine with LG ( probably because I love game )
I took about 14 timed LG from PT1-14, I made negligible effort, I can consistently complete 4 games with 35, and get -0 or -1, but I can't cut down my time significantly, so I decided to go back to LG Bible&MLGB and drill by type. That's said, I think I am jumping too fast into timed LG, so I am going back to drill and familiarize myself with the game.

Re: JUNE 2013 Study Group / Study Partner Thread
Thanks to both of you. CrazyRobin I like the idea of splitting them up and drilling the first group of PTs and doing the others timed. As long as I have time, which I should, I plan to take that approach. My accuracy is decent and unless under time constraints not missing many questions, if any. However with tough questions I struggle to get in under 10 minutes. I am hoping that drilling daily will cut down that time struggle. My only goal now is to be routinely finishing sections with acceptable accuracy by mid Feb so I can shift my focus to LR and take full timed LG sections a couple times a week.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
