I agree, there will probably only be a handful of improvement near the top, maybe people who were stuck at 165+ decide to give it one more shot or something, but probably not much difference in the top 5%.34iplaw wrote:Yeah - people are exaggerating. I could see there be more 160s, as I do sincerely a low 160s/high 150s is obtainable by a much larger portion of the test-taking population than actually receives it. You will likely see slightly more 170s but not an earth shattering amount. I forget the stat, but don't most (or near most) not go up on a second take? It'll help people score near the top of their range, reduce stress on the test, and, yes, some will take the test umpteenth times and perhaps get really lucky one time. I don't see much movement for top scores.

I believe there will definitely still be tons of people who refuse to retake regardless of how many takes they can do

I am upset about this change not coming a year sooner now that I am already deposited and signing a lease. Retaking in June would have been killer for me

I've been considering taking an additional year off but all of these changes are kind of discouraging me from doing so.

You know you can still withdraw if you aren't getting what you want. Leases are broken all the time. It's not a difficult commitment to end.chargers21 wrote:I am upset about this change not coming a year sooner now that I am already deposited and signing a lease. You can also apply and then defer an acceptance (as I know you know) if you want to wait.

2016. Problem is, I'm deposited at my #2 choice school. The school I would still want to go to if I didn't get H. I feel like backing out of my deposit is a good way to piss them off for next cycle. Plus, if I hit my PT average, the scholarship tiering at Duke would not net me a crazy amount of extra cashdj9i27 wrote:I don't want to say bail but... I'm not sure how deferrals work for scholarships and such so I don't want to bank on that.Npret wrote:Why?Alexandros wrote:I've been considering taking an additional year off but all of these changes are kind of discouraging me from doing so.

The biggest pluses of time off would be having a better time affirmatively figuring if I want to go into law and having WE when I apply, both of which would be the largest benefit prior to applications. Hard to know if that (at least the latter) would be cancelled out by having the strongest part of my app (LSAT) be devalued.

Super high LSATs won't be hurt by this change. I think the biggest shifts will be the high 150s bumping to low 160s and high 160s bumping to low 170s. People capable of 175+ will always be limitedAlexandros wrote:I'm not sure how deferrals work for scholarships and such so I don't want to bank on that.Npret wrote:Why?Alexandros wrote:I've been considering taking an additional year off but all of these changes are kind of discouraging me from doing so.

Despite my advocacy for the changes, I don't see a high LSAT being devalued in one or two years. Why not ask Spivey what he thinks? To me, it's worth the investing time to be sure you want law as a career.Alexandros wrote:I'm not sure how deferrals work for scholarships and such so I don't want to bank on that.Npret wrote:Why?Alexandros wrote:I've been considering taking an additional year off but all of these changes are kind of discouraging me from doing so.

Putting it off for an additional year would be applying in ~3 cycles. But yeah, you're absolutely right. Not worth sacrificing life plans for the chance that a 99.9%ile LSAT would be devalued.Npret wrote:Despite my advocacy for the changes, I don't see a high LSAT being devalued in one or two years.
