I know at least one who I'm pretty sure will do it, and I'm also pretty sure I can get one or two professional ones, so I'll probably be ok, but there's also a chance of messing it all up too lol.
ive got one already so technically I only need 2 more (which I thought I had). I want to drift away from professional since Stanny <3 academic LOR.

Asking irl is a lot harder for them to deny you. well mostly
Currently trying to find their office hours for the summer, might be a little tricky without emailing them first. But I also don't want to give them a chance to say no before I even get up there.

All I'm seeing is address, phone number, department, email...no office hours. Of course it couldn't be simple.

I'm super worried about this stuff, my LOR options are limited anyway, if they flake I could be totally screwed.
Same here. I've got a couple of ideas but idk what I'm going to do if those fall through.

I got a LOR from a prof who I had for a large class, but I had her twice and I went up to her for questions a few times so she knew me after a while. are ALL of your classes huge? if not, get to know a prof that you take for a smaller class.

My biggest issue re LORs is my current employer. My supervisor is a top tier partner at my firm and I think his would go a long way but I don't want to ask until after I get my score back (in case I have to retake) - problem is the turn around. I want to apply early (before Nov).

Asking would ignite the "chewinggum's leaving fire" and replacement considerations/conversations would begin.

Let's say I don't do as well as I hope in Sept, this would be especially problematic if I already put it out into the air. But if I do I'd need that LOR asap.

lose-lose.

That's total bullshit.

I have two classes first semester with a prof I'd like to get an LoR from. So if that falls through hopefully I'll know before second semester and can take action accordingly.

That's really tricky. Maybe politely let the partner know about the time constraints when you ask for the LoR - say apologies for the short notice but would like to get apps in early so would be appreciated if within 2/3 weeks?

ETA: also not sure how this works exactly having not gone through apps but I think you can 'update' your application after you submit with an additional LoR. So you could send your app in right away with 2 LoRs and then have the additional LoR added when it comes. It seems like most schools prob won't read your app / make a decision until like January-ish (I think Duke and UVA are often quicker but the rest are very slow.)

What do you guys think of asking for a LOR from someone I took 4 classes with who mentored me through multiple research conferences and projects, but it was during sophomore year?

Definitely so long you think it'd be positive and they'd remember you (weird if they didn't but you never know.)

I feel like they will for sure remember you and can write something good about you. I got a LOR from someone I took 3 classes with and I didn't do extra things like you. I think you will be fine!

This sounds like a really good option. They'll probably still have a good assessment of your potential. You may want to offer to send them a couple of papers you wrote for them since it's been a while.

My first confirmed academic LOR is from a professor who's now the head of the English department (my major) at my alma mater. I was fairly certain he'd remember me (and he did), because I wrote a paper that he absolutely raved over to the rest of the department, and told my parents at my graduation ceremony that I "understood the text and did better work than most of [his] graduate students." When I asked him to write my LOR, I reminded him about the paper I'd written that he'd enjoyed, and offered to send it to him if he wanted to refresh his memory w/r/t my abilities as a UG. He said he found it very helpful while writing my LOR.

Communicate now with those who not only know what a legal education is, but can offer you worthy advice and commentary as you complete the three most educational, yet challenging years of your law related post graduate life.

Is it bad to ask for 2 LoRs from the same class? I took a law-based UG course and did really well. Plan to ask the professor and the law student who was a Grad Instructor for the class. The LS at my UG is T1/T14 fwiw.
Both know me decently well and are familiar with my academic performance, but the law student is more familiar with my work since he graded exams and homework in the course.

Also have a professor for another class lined up (figured I should try for 3 so I could submit them all or drop one)

I think that's fine so long you have a third LoR that's from a professor (and from a different class). It's an iffy topic whether grad students count as "faculty" or not and consensus is it's best to have 2 from profs to be safe.

I am pretty ignorant on this topic, but it seems that any professor who would write a good LoR would say yes to your request regardless of whether it was in person or via email? If they would turn you down in any medium, that seems problematic.

Okay thanks, I figured it couldn't hurt.
Also, do you know what the etiquette regarding LORs is?
It would be nice to read them since I won't be applying until 2018-19 cycle and choose to use only 2, but I feel like that could be seen as rude or frowned upon.
