I actually took the day off. Yay for not taking any vacation time during the year until September!

So, reading a book, walking my dog, maybe doing a little RC in the morning
Were you the one reading Into the Wild? I think I saw that in another thread
Yep. It's actually my boyfriends favorite book and he leant it to me in like June. I'm only like halfway through and feel bad haha. I'm a huge fan of it thus far though. I know a lot of people hate it, but I'm a fan.
I just read that, and then I read Krakauer's other book about Everest. Both were good, easy reads.

I actually didn't know he had another. Maybe I'll pick that up before my vacation in a couple weeks.

Can you imagine all the shitboomers who never even had to take the LSAT for law school? I bet Obama wouldn't break 170.
Obama had like a 172 (no source I just read it somewhere once. So I'm probably wrong).
I don't want to start an affirmative action flame war, but if you play around on MyLSN.info you'll see that black applicants don't even need 170 for HLS.

Good stuff. It actually inspired me to take up rock climbing lol (which he also talks about in Into the Wild during that interlude about his own Alaskan adventure).

Into Thin Air. Definitely a good, easy read. The movie Everest is based on the same events, but not the book. It's getting fairly good reviews.

Is the URM boost really news to anyone?
Well I was kinda pointing out that Obama isn't a good example of a boomer with a low score because even today he could get like 168 and still make HLS.

Was wondering about that, I know his other one was made into a movie.
This movie isn't based on his book, but the disaster that occurred on the mountain. Krakauer is apparently pissed about how the movie portrays him.

Alpine climbing and rock climbing are two totally different beasts.

"The Summit" is a decent documentary on Netflix about an even worse disaster on K2.

Really excited for this book now and maybe the movie afterward.

And I really like the Summit. K2 has always been y dream climb, the issue is taking off enough time to train and actually climb.

Moral of the book: Don't try it unless you're an actual expert. And even then you might die.

Supposedly Everest is cake compared to K2.
Yeah K2 is a significantly harder climb.

Meh. I already figure I'll die on a hike at some point. I do way too much dangerous shit to live a long life.

The variables that you can't control make it so damn dangerous for anyone. Avalanches, weather in general, huge sheets of ice crushing you, pulmonary and cerebral edema, someone else fucking up, etc.

For me, the scariest thing is hypoxic irrational behavior... you can't even trust your own mind at that altitude.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
