168 is my absolute floor to not retake, and I'll probaby retake anything below a 170. Really scared of doing that and having to delay my apps. I'll also be out of retakes after December.

I just want it all to end! This will be my second re-take. My first was Dec. 2012, so I've had a break. My biggest fear is that all my studying and preparation will be not be enough. I want to purge the LSAT from my memory and get on with law school applications and BigLaw life. I'm over stained glass windows and mauve colored toys!

My friends and family totally don't get it. They're like, "Just take it! Maybe you'll do better than you think!"
I actually agree with your friends and family for a few reasons.
1) an initial take may help you feel more prepared come december. Your worst case scenario simply becomes your september score remaining your highest, which takes some level of uncertainty out of it.
2) I know people who were PTing in the mid 160s at a similar time in their prep in relation to where we are now, who were able to move their PTs into the mid 170s in the last few weeks and eventually score 170+ on the real thing.
3) You really don't have much to lose in terms of investment of time. since your prep will take you through september anyway, it seems to be worth sitting for september.
4) 2 weeks ago I thought the same thing as you are now, since I had only gone up 3 points since initial diag. I've seen massive improvement since then and am hitting my target now. This is possible for everyone including the people above who achieved it only in the last couple of weeks before testing. Necessity is a hell of a motivator.
5) your friends and family are right, you may actually do better than you expect. You won't know unless you take it.
6) When you are studying in october, you will wish you had at least taken a chance on being finished already instead of committing to another few months of LSAT hell. I know in my case I would regret not trying more than I would regret having to retake due to an unsatisfactory score.
Just my 2 cents. You may operate completely differently in your approach to standardized testing to anything I mentioned above, which would render my points completely invalid. In any case, do what you feel is right and good luck.

Just be warned, even if you hit your floor, it might be hard to dissuade yourself from a retake if you score more than a couple points below your PT average *speaking from experience*smccgrey wrote:170 is my floor because my GPA is 3.15... I definitely won't take in September if I'm not scoring consistently a few points above 170 by then. I'll schedule for December and re-take in February if necessary, apply for the following cycle.
I have 9 or 10 more PTs scheduled for this month, so, maybe. Maybe, maybe. I'm doing well enough writing sections timed, but it doesn't translate.

I know I would feel so much more discouraged seeing a poor score in print than I would forgoing. It's for my own peace of mind, more than anything. But, I hope your 2 and 4 are true for me, too! That would be so nice.schmelling wrote:sfoglia wrote:I probably will. Is this your first take? If so, it might be worth it to give it a shot if your practice scores are in the ball park, especially if you are open to retaking / postponing till next year in case your score suckssfoglia wrote:Aww, thank you all. Re: The Official September 2014 Study Group
Can relate. had a sub-3 average for my first two years that I was able to turn into a 3.25ish. Still crap for top schools. Which is why I study 30-40-50 hours a week to earn a number that becomes completely irrelevant the second I matriculate.smccgrey wrote:I was a raging moron for two years. It needs to be done. I cannot properly express in words how much the LSAT need be done the fuck on September the 27th, at 12pm.MadwomanintheAttic wrote:I just want it all to end! I slept through the oral portion of my Spanish final my first semester. I kept trying to tell the professor that my poor performance was so unlike me, but she was just like, "NO." Turns out I had Mono. Definitely didn't get that one from staying in with my books all night, though...Colonel_funkadunk wrote:Well it's safe to say we've all been theresmccgrey wrote:I was a raging moron for two years. Re: The Official September 2014 Study Group
Honestly I will miss the consistency in my life. I know I can sit down and complete a LG in under 8:45 and feel accomplished. I know I must finish a PT in 190 minutes. But writing a personal statement and completing the rest of the applications aren't structured like that, and I'm worried I'll let the distractions start to creep in. No lie, I have been more productive since July - particularly August - than I've ever been in my life. It feels amazing.Colonel_funkadunk wrote:Agreed. Tho I might miss LGs bc i like doing them.
