If it's your day off, why are you going to do a PT?thatlawlkid wrote:Day Off today! WOOOOO. you know what that means, PT66.
Gunna do some light prep for warm up. maybe half of each type of section and then dominate a 5 section timed. Need to get a better watch though, mine doesnt have a wheel for timing or anything.

I will probably give it a shot, though, or it at least use it as an exercise now and then, if not as my permanent RC method.
That's a dope idea I never considered! I'm going to experiment with it on new passages from this week's Economist.

AYY that's like having more materials. Might ask my aunt's SO if he still has his MCAT prep stuff.. If he does, I'm going to get my hands on their reading comp stuffproteinshake wrote: try MCAT passages, they're pretty much the same as RC.

my roommate studied for the MCAT and I looked through the passages. I couldn't tell the different between MCAT and LSAT passages, except that some of the questions might be a bit different, but they're mostly the same. they might be harder too but I'm not 100%.TheMikey wrote:AYY that's like having more materials. I took the MCAT a couple of years ago after my sophomore year. And while I have only done a few RC sections, I noticed some very different things to be aware of when using MCAT verbal sections for LSAT RC sections.proteinshake wrote:try MCAT passages, they're pretty much the same as RC.SweetTort wrote:Alexandros wrote:I'm reading about it now. The first thing was that on the MCAT the answers are much easier to scan and find. They are often just written out in one line, literally verbatim. On the LSAT I have found that you often have to bring together several lines, a paragraph, or make inferences for many of the answers. I also found that the wrong answer choices on the LSAT are FAR, FAR more enticing than on the MCAT. On the MCAT the wrong answer choices are in some case just ridiculous. And they are too sometimes on the LSAT, albeit less commonly. There were actually times where I wouldn't even read the entire passage, just a quick scan. Then when I would attack the questions, I would scan again to find each question.
Also, on the verbal section of the MCAT there are completely different question types. So while answering a question about the Prussian-Franco war, they might give you a quote of a famous general and ask you to relate it to the passage in some way.
The second major thing was the topics of the passages. One of the reasons I think that the RC of the LSAT is harder is that on the MCAT is that if you are really well rounded, you could almost answer some of the questions from your own knowledge and a little bit of inference making on the MCAT. I found myself using my knowledge of history and science to more easily attack the questions on the MCAT. Whereas on the LSAT the topics they choose tend not to lend any advantage to those who might know more about those things. For example, I suck most on the science LSAT RC passages and I studied biology.
That said, I do think you can use the MCAT verbal sections to help you prep for the LSAT RC. I think the goal is largely the same and the structures are very similar. It would be good to use to test out new techniques like the 7Sage Memory Method.
TL;DR I didn't feel like the MCAT was trying to trick me with the answer choices. Also, they were easier to just scan and find.
ETA: Don't let this discourage anyone from trying it out for yourself. This could have been completely subjective and just the way I saw it and remember it.

Well my latest prep-test was consistent with overall score but damn I had thought I'd made more progress with LG...went -6 for the section. Only one stupid mistake really, the rest was just being strapped for time. Surprisingly strong LR scores kept me to -11, which got me a 170 for this test, my highest yet. Still, the plateau on LG seems to have been there for the last couple weeks...I consistently go -4 to -6 with the main issue being time.

Just took my second PT. 1st was 163. This one was miraculously 173. It was Test 36. What's odd is that the test felt so difficult of me that I was certain I did worse than last time. Logic games I felt like I guessed on at least 4 or 5 questions yet I only missed 1 in the whole section. Guessing that means my score was more of a fluke...

It means you know the material provided you didn't just get weirdly lucky on a lot of guesses. If your score drops, it means you probably lack discipline while taking PTs. I don't say this to be mean... I think this has held back my most recent PT...if I can get -4 or less on any section during a five times test without guessing, I can do it all at once. It's a matter of focus and discipline once you have a pretty good grasp of material.LawTweet wrote:Just took my second PT. 1st was 163. This one was miraculously 173. It was Test 36. Finally got the courage to try the RC section from the June exam again... Only went -2 compared to -9 on test day, geez. Curse LSAC for making that the last section of my exam.

Just took PT 48:
LR1: -4
LG: -4
RC: -5
LR2: -4
Score: 163
Quite disappointed in the score, particularly in the LG department. Taking a quick look at the questions I missed they are all in the easy games and result from me simply hurrying too much.
Not too sure about RC/LR - I'll have to take a deeper look.
After BR for this one I am going to look at some 7Sage analytics and do some question-type focused drilling.

I keep making these dumb mistakes on logic games. Like, just sloppy. I will not let sloppy errors keep me from a 177+.

So last night, I spent my evening doing LG. I think with LG you have to practice them every day, even if it is only for an hour (this is for timing).
I got my LG at 4 minutes, 5 minutes, and games that JY recommends for 11 minutes in 7 minutes. I'm still not happy with the 7 minute marker.
Plan for today is:
1) Finish drilling LG
2) Do next chapter of Cambridge LG
3) Memory method RC lesson (I printed out all the RC passages in the lesson along with 4 passages each of social sciences, humanities, and I already have a set of legal and science passages printed).
4) LR

FUCK just did a PT and completely, completely bombed LG. This ... keeps happening???
Got them as the last of the five sections, my mental stamina was not there at all, panicked, tried to rush through without make any inferences. Oh christ. I don't even want to mark this??
Lmao I'm gonna call this PT a learning experience. I guess it's better to have something like this on a PT then the real thing, and hopefully I'll be able to take steps to prevent it from happening in the future, or something? Or maybe I'm hopeless. Frick.

I think I'm gonna BR the logic games, just to give myself the satisfaction of having completed it.
I'm a bit at a loss here. I've been doing LG for such a long time and I'm almost out of new games. If they're not at 0, they should at least not be the section that completely destroys my score.
Thinking about maybe starting like idk 6 section PTs with unfamiliar LG at the end??? Idk.

How do I keep find myself next to people in public places {i.e. Starbucks} that are having conversations that should not be held in public. Do people have no sense of appropriateness or are they just shameless?
Any tips for people that are somewhat over the board on RC? I go perfect on like three out of four passages and miss one or two on every other...but I feel like I more often miss two than I miss one...sometimes it'll be some word or phrase sort of taints my interpretation of the passage.

PT 72:
RC: -2
LR1: -1
LR2: 0
LR experimental: 0
LG: -5 LOOOLLL
Raw: 93
Scaled: 174
I'm thinking I could modify every PT so the games are the last section? I don't know.
Like, I guess it could have been worse, but it could have been so much better. Fuck this test. I'm going for a run.

And obviously, trying to understand what it is that's causing the incorrect answers and seeing if you see a pattern in which style of question you're getting wrong.

So just did the passage we never got into class today...
Oct 2011 #19...felt it was super easy...supposedly one of the harder RC questions in LSAT history. Slight confidence boost after some fluctuations in LSAT RC passages.
