Checking in. What do yous think of using Kaplan & other crap PTs for the experimental?
I've been inactive for a few days after taking a PT a bit early (yes, I'm behind, and ready by Feb would be a stretch, but not impossible), but hoping to get back on it by the weekend, with at least some practice btwn now and then.
Anyone else curious what it would be like to lurk around a testing site this weekend and watch entry, break, exit behaviors? (Disturbed, I know...)

Thanks for joining usyepuhhuh wrote:Checking in. What do yous think of using Kaplan & other crap PTs for the experimental?

Here are other things I recommend and use:
-Take a couple PTs (preferable older ones) and break them up into their respective sections and add each section to a PT - voila, 5 section PT
-Use a section of a PT that you already took as the experimental section -good to see how well you are mastering concepts you encountered
-Pick any extra section you have that you may have a weakness in, for example if you need help in RC like me, then add a RC section as the 5th section

I just finished 7Sage a few months ago and highly recommend it! Being able to take a preptest, blind review, then seeing the big picture perspective through Analytics was key to me pinpointing my weaknesses.nlee10 wrote:Jgoods wrote: I'm sure you'll break through soon! you broke through the 160 b4 me so means you'll break through here too! #Logicstep by step. Haven't really PT'd since starting 7Sage so looking forward to more improvement.
Finally hit 170 yesterday on PT51 after work which was probably one of the happiest days of my adult life. I hope I can ride this momentum for the next few weeks before Christmas!

Is it wrong that I want to take the Feb. LSAT because I don't want to stop studying yet?
Most likely checking in here to consistently be able to break 170 by Feb.

Anyone here applying this cycle?
I'm currently scoring around 163-165 on every PT I take after about 3 weeks of studying. I know I can improve my score with a little more time and I'm confident that I can score over 170 with some improvement on LG's. Definitely doable. Just not in one week so I decided to drop the December test date and take it in February.
I got a late start on studying because I recently ran for the state senate and was busy with the campaign. Raised a lot of money and was endorsed by the Governor and both US Senators but ended up losing the race and decided it's time to attend law school. I have a 3.85 GPA and 3 years work experience for US Congressman and State Chamber.
I'm still hoping I may have a chance for a top school this cycle even taking the test so late. Is anyone else applying this cycle?

With that GPA and a 170+, you can still get into top schools with a Feb LSAT score, but you might lose out on scholarship $$. If you are made of $$$, then I'd go for this cycle. Otherwise, I'd strongly suggest sitting out this cycle so you can apply early the next one and reap $$$.Tayaz2015 wrote:I'm currently scoring around 163-165 on every PT I take after about 3 weeks of studying. ETA: As far as I know, most of the people who previously jumped ship from Dec to Feb are applying next cycle.

I would recommend getting your recommendations and transcripts in order now and studying as much as possible. Once you've written the Feb test you can finish your apps while waiting for your score. I would devote as much time as I can to the LSAT without any other distractions if I were you. Additionally, with your GPA and experience if you don't break 170 in Feb, will you try to max out your score again in June with the idea that you would sit out this cycle? It sounds like you are kind of looking for a "rebound" after your lost. Maybe its best to mull things over? Law school is a big decision (and a lot of debt).

Thanks nlee10 and penncon for the advice. I'm not completely opposed to sitting out the cycle but does it hurt me to apply this cycle and if I'm not happy with the outcome apply again?penncon wrote:I'm applying next cycle. And yes, you could say it is a rebound after losing but mostly it's the culmination of the experience and the realization that I have a lot to learn about the law and the institutions that it governs. But I agree taking the time to really consider a big decision like law school is most definitely important.

I'll take a look, thanks!Big Red wrote:I'm applying in this cycle, but depending on how things go I'm ready to sit out another year. You can look at LSN for the last 3 cycles (control for March apps), and IMO generic tls advice on the topic exaggerates the $ difference between early apps and Feb apps - but I guess I'm going to see.Tayaz2015 wrote: I'm still hoping I may have a chance for a top school this cycle even taking the test so late. At this point, it's fairly random and it just comes down to derping out on the question. I missed a Describe, MBT, and Weaken but they were on questions 15 and up so typically more difficult questions. I would love to hit less than -3 to -5 total on LR in Feb.penncon wrote:That's great! Just checking in for a minute... just wanted to let you guys who are interested in this know that I just went to my local library and through Inter-library-loan (ILL) borrowed 3 10 actual pretest books...there were more, but I figured I would pace myself, lol.
Idk what kind of condition these books will be in, and they said it could take a few days up to 6 weeks to get them in, so it's kind of a gamble. I ordered my next book on Amazon and it should be here soon, so no worries there, just thought some of you might not have thought to try there either.
