We are currently attempting to suss out important aspects of pencils and pencil paraphernalia to serve future TLSers when preparing for the LSAT. I'm sorry that this thread has been a nuisance in your 'View Your Posts', but this altruistic and vital work must be done.Gotti wrote:WHY. WON'T. THIS. THREAD. DIE.

Blueprint really appears to be edging out Manhattan in terms of quality prep material. I wish manhattan bros would get ITT to plead their case.Dr. Dre wrote:ManoftheHour wrote: Prep companies like Blueprint want the best for their students. Holy shit this thread has taken off. I never even ordered the brass bullet. The 5 dollar one was sold out and I'm too cheap for the 13 buck one. My apologies guys. Glad to see this thread is still alive.

Re: What #2 Pencil Should I use?
Strongest impressions:
1) The Palomino Blackwing 602 is a god among pencils. I'm considering throwing caution to the wind and using it on the LSAT, despite it not being an official #2. It's that good.
2) The Palomino HB is quite nice, and may beat out my current favorite, the Mirado Black Warrior (which itself beats out the garbage that is the black Ticonderoga). This may end up being my test day pencil, since it's officially HB (which is basically equivalent to #2, as far as I understand).
Neither the Golden Bear nor the Prospector particularly wowed me. Prospector had similar problems to Ticonderogas (finicky about sharpening/tendency to lose its tip), and while the lead of the Golden Bear was nice, its eraser was enough to rule it out as a test day contender.

This is my review of the Alvin Brass Bullet pencil sharpener. The review will follow after the pictures.
Look at that beauty

Layin' low next to the homiez

Pencil is inside

On top of a quarter (for size comparison)

String is holding it

The hole

Next to mini-mi
--ImageRemoved--
My old pencil sharpener

Just look at that point it produced! (ticon black)

Posting with the training gear

The Alvin Brass Bullet pencil sharpener (henceforth ABB) is so fucking legit. The grip is amazing. The look of it is sexy.
The ABB produces a quality point. Unlike other TTTT pencil sharpeners, when you keep on sharpening the pencil, even though it is finished sharpening, the lead will NOT break off completely from the pencil. Instead the lead's tip will break a little and the blade on the ABB will sharpen it again. So you will never have to fear starting all over from no point, if you sharpen too much.
The blade on this baby is just quality. I bet when ever I sharpen my ticon black with the ABB, it feels like its getting its dick sucked (if the ticon black is a she; it will feel like its getting its clit licked).
I timed how long it takes to produce a satisfactory point. The average was 4.6 seconds. (I timed it when the point of the pencil was almost gone)
The only problem is that the ABB does not have a compartment to trap the shavings.
However, the shavings are not messy at all. Just look at the picture below.

My solution therefore is to just wipe the shavings from my desk on game-day. But if you people have a better idea. POAST it.
OVERALL: the ABB is 10/10
worth every penny

Why bring a sharpener? I brought a bag of two packs of fully sharpened pencils so I could violently discard them when they became dull.

This is the Tug sharpener I use. It's ergonomic and has a molded cap, so the dust doesn't just fall out. Also, it can produce two different types of points. I've never tried the ABB, so I can't say it's better ... but it works well for me.Dr. Dre wrote:But if you people have a better idea. POAST it.

Just asked in BP Shinners study thread
i just saw it
one thing: they don't advise CVS pencils in their books. They said it here:

...we're allowed to bring highlighters? When I first read that, I thought it was stupid... but I have to admit, it's possible that highlighting the shit I normally box when doing RC could potentially shave considerable time(I'd have to try it on a few PTs to see). Can anyone weigh in on this for me?
Also, Dre, hot review, good work man! I'm planning on doing a Bullet vs. Dual-Blade KUM review once they deliver, which should be educational.

Re: What #2 Pencil Should I use?
I feel like switching constantly between highlighter and pencil wastes more time. I notate definitions with a quick "def" in the margins though, so if you don't need a pencil during the reading it might work.mlansky wrote:...we're allowed to bring highlighters? I think I'd probably try to learn how to highlight left-handed, then no time lost.
