R: I'm right, you're wrong.
D: You're just a racist and a bigot. You'll never understand. you'll always be on the wrong side of history.
and when some level-headed individual comes in, they get lumped in with either side and all but completely ignored.

Re: The Official June 2015 Waiter's Thread
Well on one side of the opposite side to you, there's the thought that SCOTUS shouldn't even be involved since it is a state issue. If we go down to the state-level, one of the main arguments is that it essentially is awarding something to individuals who aren't supposed to be allowed something, something that wouldn't benefit them anyways. For instance, assuming civil unions are allowed in the state, that would allow for the same tax relief as marriage, therefore making it unnecessary for homosexual marriage. Marriage generally being a religious institution, as CJ Roberts expressed, has the purpose and intent of committing 2 individuals to stay together and raise a family together. Here I will divert from my argument because it basically loses ground passed this point due to the fact that heterosexual couples are defiling the purpose of marriage as well.whacka wrote:.
Of course, I think what Seamus was hitting on is a pretty good reflection of the actual state of things (or at least was heading in that direction; feel free to correct me though as I don't want to put words in his mouth). Marriage as an institution has been going down hill with the lack of commitment therein, which has somewhat been brought about by "progressive" policies that approve sexual diversity, multiple partners, wholly free decisions (with no regard to others), etc.

I, like many of you, am a Poli-sci grad. It is this realization throughout my experiences in uni that have pushed me away from much of my enjoyment in political experiences. I wish I would have chosen something else, but I genuinely did like the study of politics, just not how awful people are at discussing it in general (especially those who think they are bird courses so they are dumb anyways). Though, I did know there was some distance between logical discussion and political discourse in a practical arena, which is why I decided i want to pursue the law. There is almost nothing more concrete (in a discussion) than contracts, laws, and proceedings. The less my life is influenced by ignorant political discussions, the happier I will beruizdaw wrote:

Re: The Official June 2015 Waiter's Thread
Which is fine. I will respect the SCOTUS ruling. However, when I am referred to as "close-minded" in a generalizing FB post about how this is the greatest decision since sliced bread, I will continue to be upset that these supposedly progressive individuals are labeling my views when I have been nothing but open to a logical and civil discourse.bpolley0 wrote:I think this decision is going to benefit everyone- especially the conservatives more so than you would initially think. On one hand, I believe everyone should have the right to marry. This is a right that the left has fought long and hard for so they will celebrate this as a huge victory. However, I think in the long run this will benefit conservatives because the left will have one less major social issue to put their platform on. What is Hillary Clinton's platform for the next presidential race going to look like? Is it just going to be about race? She has nothing else to run on.......
Hopefully by correcting these social issues and coming up with a definitive judgement, the country will begin to start focusing on other pressing issues such as the government subsidizing the price of college through the student loan program and the current state of fiscal and monetary policy.

The intentions of those who carried it meaning: protecting the Southern states from Northern aggression, protecting states rights against the overreaching policies of the nation's decisions, or being in battle against an individual who had no intention of freeing the slaves?buckiguy_sucks wrote: except the US flag continues to represent America and grows/changes with the changing of the US while the battle flag solely represents its brief history and the intentions of those who carried it at the time
