I was reading the Roberts dissent. Very compelling points he makes.

How will the SCOTUS ruling actually go about being implemented? It's not actually just automatically legal everywhere right? I know it's not the same institution but Brown V BOE took forever to be implemented everywhere

Do you think there will be resistance from individuals who are still opposed? We can outlaw legal discrimination but there are still a hell of a lot of people that are personally opposed. Will gay couples have trouble finding people to marry them, venues to host their weddings, etc?whacka wrote:It's not hard to implement. I am avoiding facebook for a while so I don't have to look at all my liberal friends rubbing it in my face and all my republican friends act like they just died and the ensuing fights between them.Seamus887 wrote:Not happy at all, but kinda was expected. Re: The Official June 2015 Waiter's Thread
Unless he is basing them on separate merits. If you recognize them as similar issues, then you are correct: he cannot separate the two. However, viewing them as distinct and as different issues in general, it is much easier to separate the considerations (if my wording makes sense at all). The same words can be said in the argument, but under different circumstances, the law could be applied differently (and I'm trying to make a coherent argument in my head to justify what I'm saying but words are bad for me today).whacka wrote:
I really don't know how he can make those points without also disagreeing with policy considerations as applied to the 14th like we see in Brown, and I know he's not about to tell me that he disagrees with Brown
